Google Pixel explodes into flames – Report

I've seen somebody put their smartphone into their back pocket, and thought by myself - if that battery is bend or damaged, then it'll give big problems.

I've done it only once, never again. Phone was not the same after that, had to toss it.

Why do the manufactures insist on captive batteries? Most people are not worried if the handset is 1mm thicker but most customers think that they should be able to change their battery without recourse to a service department! I'm unaware of any non-captive l-ion battery "explosions" or serious overheating...
