Google play store always slow?

Updating installed apps on my Droid phone.

Speedtest.net says I've got 5Mb down and 2.5Mb upload speed. Great. (Afrihost mobile, end of month data splurge).

But when updating installed apps on my phone, it's almost as if I'm using a 2400bps dial-up modem to update the apps.

Is this deliberate, or what?

What happens when connecting through wifi (ADSL) or your MiFi device?

The Play Store downloads at line speed on my 4Mbps Afrihost Business DSL connection. Downloaded the 1.9GB Modern Combat 4 earlier and it was as fast as I could expect.

APN is Afrihost.

ADSL is also slow (wifi)...

I had a look at the download progress, some apps go faster, some go slower, and it's not because of their different sizes...

Or maybe it's just me and I must suck it up

Does the store use multi-threaded downloads? Download ESDownloader and try pull an .apk directly.

On WebAfrica capped and Telkom Internet Google Play downloads are like a speed racer, really fast. So I'd report this...

I can say the same with my OpenWeb account, both using IS so I guess that's why. Sometimes the downloads seem like they go faster than what is possible, for instance the app will be 20MB and it will download in like 2 seconds. No complaints here though.
