The market was just renamed to Google Play and now includes music, games, and movies.... well if you use a US or NZ account.

Its really sad to see how much we lose thanx to draconion zoning and our crappy media laws.

More info about play at http://play.google.com/about/

vs

Truly sad,

At least we have Games, something a SA iPhone account doesn't. But they bypass it by using US account.

Only problem for us is that you need to use a VPN to access the other media, where Apple users just register with false data.

Is there a way to convert to a US account, or to register a new US account, like it can be done with Apple's Appstore?

No need to change your account details.

All you need to do is log in via a Proxy server, VPN and have Market Enabler(Connecting via wifi) on your phone.

For a simple example goto play.google.com via http://www.freeproxy.net (I would use a trusted paid-for service to actually log in)

NZ as in New Zealand? No I'm afraid it's the same as SA here, just apps and games.

Oh well, The Pirate Bay doesn't discriminate.

So sad, and with no change in sight we are all forced to go to a "Video Shop" - or do the whole pirate thing, which happens to be much easier.

I still find our laws to be ridiculous. Its physically impossible to get the shows I want to watch, SABC is years behind the USA, DSTV is crap expensive and also weeks behind, not to mention that I have to watch on their schedule.

I laughed when I saw that on many legal US services you can get streaming or even downloadable copies of all the shows I enjoy with a single $9.99 per month account, ironically enough i pay $10.99 to download them illegally from a secure server. To think that our laws were not so backwards I could save R10 per month and be legal all at the same time.

The complain so much about piracy but then those of us happy to follow the legal route are screwed over by the laws. Essentially in SA its illegal to be illegal and illegal to be legal.

What are you on? Seriously are you complaining about SA laws or inability of publishers to give us content? Yah, lets blame the government for not having an App Store that's not as extensive as US App Store.

Last time I checked - http://www.fpb.gov.za/ is a government organization created in accordance to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Films_and_Publications_Act,_1996, this rating system for games and movies creates a false border to block us from accessing the media.

Who else must we blame?

If you want a copy you are welcome to get it www.info.gov.za/view/DownloadFileAction?id=70901
