Honestly up till now this (the patent cases) had no impact on anyone in SA, or for that matter most of the countries. The few instances have only served to temporarily delay a product to market e.g. Samsung Tab in Australia, Holland, Germany.

Hence I believe a lot of the hate / debate is completely unfounded i.e. no measurable impact for consumers only lawyers getting rich.

Perhaps...but it could financially drain a company. Meanwhile Apple apparently uses $100.00 bills to wipe their bums? I think they have so much money and are so frekking bored that they are trying to keep busy with this crap!

The biggest problem with Motorola / Google's FRAND attack is that the spin off will even hurt Samsung, HTC, ... (i.e. supposedly their partners) -- basically the same terms would need to apply to them. Hopefully you can now see how this is not favourable for anyone.

Does this entire saga not make anyone else think of the Cold War....except instead of stock piling nukes....they are now stock piling patents ready to fire?

hehe. I heard Motorola has got nice big patents also in the GSM/3G tech..somehthing to do with how the phone works with the networks or something. Cant remember now. Nokia aint the only one with patents there.

Most of the cellphone companies have patents in the GSM/3G FRAND patent pool. Nokia, however, has the bulk of them

Exactly. FRAND is there for a reason. It protects everyone involved
