Hi all,

I'm on 10Mbps ADSL on Telkom Internet. This entire weekend I've noticed incredibly poor performance from all Google services. Search, mail, Youtube, all work intermittently or not at all. It actually causes havoc with most other sites as well since they all connect to Google analytics or API's etc, so invariably the page hangs while waiting for some Google service to respond.

It's not browser related since my Drive application also struggles to connect.
My brother who is in a totally different part of the country complains about the exact same thing, so it seems unlikely to be exchange congestion.

Anyone else experience something similar?

Certain searches are always slow. "Gauteng number plates" won't work, but you can use Dogpile quite easily.

My Google services are ok today, but I have noticed some lagging now and then

Dogpile? Not sure I follow...

I'm not bothered about search per se, I'm just trying to figure out if there is a problem with Telkom Internet and Google in general, or whether I should look for issues on my end.

Adding on to this, what's the normal ping time to the Google DNS and caches? I get 180 - 200ms currently.

IOS 8... well according to most isp's

in reality most just oversold their network in the hopes there are people who use almost nothing of their capped and uncapped accounts.

People started downloading the ios update and it basically caused the entire network to slow down. telkom seems to have put down severe control measures probably affecting other isps.

This is probably causing all these issues. :D

DSL (and broadband in general) is always oversold. It's the only way to make it affordable. Hence it's OK on average but potentially sucks during peak times.

Thanks for the input; things have improved, so maybe the IOS 8 update did have an impact.
