Google announced that energy companies in six US states, Canada and India will use "smart meter" software which allows consumers to monitor their home electricity consumption.

Now why cant eskom do something like this to help us save power? Idiots are only interested in lining their bloody pockets.

There currently isn't a specific standard for smart metering. It's a great idea on paper but the people involved with specifications etc (IEC/SABS etc) need to knuckle down and finalise the requirements for this type of metering.
