GoPro HD2 vs GoPro HD3

eehellfire, again, no, not automatically. Go have a look at the link in my other reply to you.

This is exactly why statements like Greybush's are a bad thing.

Derail alert!!

I'm happy to take the "double" as powerful for what it is - slightly better..
I'll also buy the HD3 over the HD2, because GoPro thinks its better and its the same price.. Can we discuss the camera again?

Sure, I've said my piece, and whether GreyBush is going to read what I said or not seems unlikely to get him to discuss this in a mature, reasonable fashion anyway.

If, as you say, they are the same price, then there should (ideally) be no reason to bother considering the Hero2. Looking up reviews of build quality and the like for the camera as well as casing would at this point be a good idea, as well as searching for people complaining about the Hero 3 sometimes not turning on after being connected to a PC, as the Hero2 did. If you don't find any of the latter, that should be good.

Why would you ruin my fun?
I could have had nanonyous ripping his/her hair out at my inane questions

And it weighs a lot less too, it's win win. All you really need to do is go on youtube and check their official gopro video and you will buy one in a flash... that scene where the camera goes from an underwater shot and drops down into the barrel sold me... same as the HD2 video where the base jumper flies through that hole in the rock in china sold me on the HD2.

I don't think it's the same price? the Hero2 Motorsports pack can be picked up for as little as R3199... the Silver edition Hero3 is R3999 (with less attachments)

Except not, because I provided you with a link, so if anything your attempt at trolling would make you look stupid and/or lazy.

This is not just a link:

I'm not saying that they didn't improve on or that they might've even taken a step backwards in the optics on the Hero 3 models vs the Hero 2. What I am saying is that Greybush's original statement in the context of photographic and video equipment in general is potentially dangerous to the perceptions of those reading it, and could cause them to mistake a camera that is 'twice as powerful' (read: twice the megapixels, twice the zoom range, twice the max ISO setting, twice the frames per second, twice the battery life, etc) to be automatically 'better' than the camera it's being compared to.

One could practically, then, say that the camera that costs twice as much is automatically better than what you're comparing it to because it has a doubling of (some) figures, including its price. That's simply not a true assumption to make.

For a practical example, you could compare a Canon 1100D to a 550D (or 600D), for the body alone. The price doubles.

You gain more FPS and buffer (approx 50% in both cases), yes.
You gain more megapixels, yes.
You gain better video functionality, yes.
You gain spot metering.
On the 600D, you gain the tilty-swivelly screen.

You don't, on the other hand, truly gain in image quality.
You don't gain more, nor better, focus points.
You don't gain a more advanced metering system (technically, the 1100D's is superior in this regard, though you'd be hard-pressed to find a DSLR still manufactured today with a crappy metering system to begin with).
You don't gain superior noise performance.
You don't (much) more dynamic range.
You don't gain (much) more colour depth.

Nice.

You'd get more value out of the gopro IMO.

I'm not convinced. My point-and-shoot camera is also 11 megapixels, and has an LCD screen so that I can 'preview' my photos.
Also this case is R1250, while a GoPro Hero 2 will cost R2799 (from Kalahari), excluding the diving housing at around R500.

I don't think that I would use the GoPro other than for diving, and a dive housing for my camera will meet my needs exactly.

Im waiting for stock of the hero3 to arrive in Hong Kong so that my sister can bring one home at Christmas time \0/
For all of the things I checked out the hero3 black is a great camera, having the dive housing included is also great.
I used a friends hero1 in Mauritius recently for diving videos and I was absolutely blown away by the quality, its seriously amazing.

I don't take photo's too often, but this is one of them... I had to crop out my butt crack.

A few questions!
Where did you mount your camera for that? If its on the back corner then Im pretty sure you arent into dropknee :p
Where is this? guessing by your location and the fact that you are in boardies that its in KZN somewhere...
Lastly judging by that chunk of sidewash coming back at you that you arent pulling in so what did you do when you hit that lip?
:D
That is all.

Cool.. The new Hero3 Black has that awesome option of taking pictures in video mode, should give a best of both worlds :)

We're going to Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia in March for a month. Do you guys think I'd get the Hero cheaper in Bangkok?
