Now try opening 6 in a row lol.

All were bought on great specials (50% off, after long non loadshedding periods), so I think their batteries died "early" because they were not maintained while they were in the retail process.

i will try open your 6 no issues

Ultratec is the best. Have mine for years now, no problem. I bought mine a few years before the 2015 Loadshedding, on special for R149. Won't get them for that price any more.
Two in a bag, like this : LINK (R699 Cape Union Mart)
Might get it cheaper somewhere else. About 50hr on a charge.
I have one of these, also from Cape union, lasted less than a year now its like the leds are in ultra-low mode permanently. Rather get the one from Builders it at least works when you need it to.

Ps. And it's cheaper than the ultratech crap.

really any 12V rated item that draws less than the output rating, that said, the lower consumption the better on the batteries and the longer it would last. i would probably look to get some small 12v led's, how big of an area are you looking to light? and is the output 12v or 24v?
12v

well i conducted a couple of experiments last night
2 x eurolux 18led lamps toasted (about 2 minutes)
2 other lights with 6v halogen globes started producing burning smoke within 5 minutes

**they were connected parallel in the boat
must be in series to have smoked everything

Yes, something you did, if they are 12V connected correctly the should not be any issues.

What I did was pair up 2 x 6v rated items to 1 x 12v battery.

However, I assumed the 2 x 12v batteries were still connected parallel - which evidently they weren't

I also have 2 Ultratec lamps, bought shortly after the 2008 load shedding. One battery was dead just after a year, the other one is still good. The batteries are almost as expensive as a new Magneto light.

A friend of mine resorts to candles every time eskom fukks us.

I have a pair of 12v 35AH batteries with their charger etc (a self contained unit)
What kind of lighting can be connected to these batteries without the high amp rating setting fire to the neighborhood ?
Led strips

And they fix them free at their warehouse.

Indeed, many options from the camping/outdoor side.
FYI , just bought LED strips at new store in Princess Crossing next to Escort factory shop.
Huge selection. All colours. On thin aluminium backing. With presoldered wires(100mm). Decent quality.
Only R20 per strip x 1.0m
Put one strip in car boot !!!

Thanks for the link, was aware of their price, but with about 50 Km driving to get them or delivery costs when ordered online comes again near the Magneto price.

Yeah, not worth it for one battery, now if doing 10 like I did, worth it lol.

Wonder why power is still on here in Garsies?
