Hi there,
Got my Sentech in the post about 3 weeks ago. Plugged in and got 3 lights on. Started installation - no connection - did not want to go to registration - every time I clicked on dialer - gave a popup message saying that the thingy is not plugged in. After trying to stick it to the ceiling etc - it still was not working. I freeked and after I thought about what I'm about to pay for something that is not working - freeked again. After speaking to Sentech - got some story about 'I can get to the tower - but the tower can't get to me'. Sounds like something religious... Was not convinced.
Thought for a while... Wireless dailer brings up a silly message saying that the modem is not connected to the computer, or the signal is not strong enough or the thingy is not plugged in. Figured that the thing is plugged in - the signal is probably strong enough and then thought - maybe the operating system is not seeing the thingy or the COM port... Voila! Started playing around with modem and stuff and after reading on this forum - decided that the Sentech network connection was not being installed properly... The installer must think that there is already a modem on one of the COM ports and does not create the Sentech connection... So my advice is if you have another connection to a dialup provider or something like that - then think about deleting it before you install. Please also think about the fact that you may need to remember the username, password and dial-up number - for incase this advice (which is truly fictional and a pigment of your imagination) does not work. WRITE IT DOWN !
So I deleted the other modem connections, (i.e. my [--OLD DIALUP ISP--] subscription - they are not going to like that !!! ) - and re-installed the whole thing from scratch - folling the easy onscreen wizard. It connected first time. I registered and after speaking to the nice people at Sentech finally remembered my username and password that I wrote on my contract... It took three weeks to activate - so don't laugh at me...
I love it ! It is amazing... More than 20kb/s download - always on - lovely !!
I think I will post this to the forum for incase someone out there is struggling with a [OLD DIALUP ISP] connection interfering with their connection to the World Wide Wake-up aka Broadband.
Makes me want to go out and buy a game requiring a high speed connection - ghhhgghhghghg
