this morning! wow what a phone! AWESOME SCREEN! ITS HUGE!!

nice and sturdy construction, slider mechanism is smooth and snug! and the joystick is just perfect - not too tight or too loose ;)

How? On a Vodacom conract? Which? What made you choose the N73 instead of the N80?

Hey, whats contract did you get it on?

please tell me what contract you got it on? I really want that phone , i just hope its on my weekend contract upgrade  :p  :p

Far superior phone to the N80!
Nice choice Nokias most stable symbian to date after the E61 ;)

We should have a K800 vs N73 pic comparrison.:p

Ermm the N80, N73 and E61 all run on Symbian60 v3. I wouldn't say that it's superior to the N80, it doesn't have a WLAN feature, and IMO the N80 still looks far better (especially in black).

Lol, ye they all use symbian 9, but the E - series is the most stable E70 included, N80 is about second worst compared to the N70 which is the worst!
The battery lifes better, Cam is better, video etc... More an image phone.

All S60's from Nokia look crap!!

The image and video quality is exactly the same resolution so I don't get how it would be better? It also has the same crappy LED flash (the k800i has the best flash). The only difference is the N73 has a stabiliser in case your hand suddenly shakes or something.

The N70 is S60 v2 so we can't really compare it to the v3 phones. The N80 was the first S60 v3 phone.

Yes the K800 does! :D

Im not really a Nokia fan, I think the N73 is better though apart from Wifi.

i was a Sony fanboy deluxe... but think the N73 is better :(

I got the N73 on CellC @ R275pm 100 free anytime minutes contract in Cape Town. I preferred it to the N80 because of the superior battery life. The wifi on the N80 was somewhat tempting though, but I haven't set up wifi at home yet so the battery life won out.

I think the SE k800 has a better camera, but cellc didn't have it when I renewed my contract. Would have gone for the N93 from Virgin, and held out for MNP but my budget simply didn't stretch that far.

Am very happy with the N73 though, the screen is big and bright, the browser is fantastic, the camera does a capable job and the OS is very quick once it has booted. My only niggles are as follows:

The alarm application does not repeat, so you have to set it every night to wake you up in the morning.

You are limited to a very small number of applications that can be started with the left and right soft-keys.

The voice activation of applications only applies to those that are part of symbian, newly installed applications cannot be voice activated.

The converter application does not correctly convert pressure from pascals to mm Hg (a very small but very annoying niggle as my barometer at home only presents in mm Hg, nerd I know, but then I do live in Cape Town where the weather is discussed interminably).

To get around the alarm problem I bought the Handy set of tools which includes Handy Alarm, Handy Task Manager (an essential, especially if you want to clean up programs in memory) and handy Keylock. I figured the small outlay (about $17) was worth getting rid of some of the niggles. The conversion error still has me though. I have no idea of who to contact to fix it, any ideas?

lol

well all of those questions.. i guess i chose the N73 above the N80 because i have been on european user forums where the phone has been released for a few months now already and the feedback was very very good regarding the N73 when compared to N80 and k800i

so here is my personal opinions and i'm sure your's will differ according to what you are looking for in a phone..

N80 is better phone w.r.t. features, especially wifi and uPnP except when are we gonna get uPnP devices - hifi's, tv's whatever here in south africa? as for wifi? my phone is not used for work but entertainment and telephone calls.. also, battery life of the N80 is rather poor too

as for the k800i, it lacks too much feature wise when compared to N series phones, altho the camera is marginally better w.r.t. resolution, N73 gives you so much more vivid colour in its pictures, even in low light conditions ;)

the real clincher for me tho was the huge screen on the N73, and its resolution altho not better than the N80's, is far better than anything i've seen on a K800i

so there are my reasons for choosing the N73, pay in of R99 at autopage on a talk 240 btw

how do i attach a pic taken with the N73??

I would actually have thought the N73 would go for much less , considering the K800 is free already on the weekender. For some people who don't really care for all the specs, the K800 would be the definite choice because of price difference. In my opinion if Nokia wants to compete in the camera phone arena, they have to consider price as well.

Lets say the average SA citizen walks into Vodashop and see's:
SE k800 (3 megapixels) = Free
Nokia N73 (3 megapixels) = R1399 extra

the choice is simply the K800.

Even amongst the phone guru's there is some discussion of which phone is better. I would just like to know why Nokia's are just so much more expensive?

Tell me about the numbered keys on the keypad - all reviews I've read say they are yuckky compared to the N70/N80 etc. Also some say they smaller than the N70's although pics I've seen they appear slightly larger.

Also, the N73 has a Carl Zeiss lens which is far superior to the N80's lens.

Another pet hate of mine for the N80 is the very high screen resolution on the smaller than the N73 screen - I'm getting on and cannot read the menus on the N80 without glasses. Resolution on the N73 is the same as the N70 which I can deal with.

If you're going purely on image quality, you can't compare to the K800i. Don't forget that $ony has years of experience with it's cybershot digital camera's, and they brought that experience to the K800i. The LED flash on ANY Nokia is crap compared to K800i, which has a proper digicam flash.

If you want the widest range of features, then it has to be the N80. If you want something inbetween, then it's the N73.

my opinion

ok again this is my own opinion.. (not always worth much lol)

i do feel that it would be worth spending the extra cash on a nokia, mainly because the quality of the product is really on a very high level, i've seen other phones with better features, camera's etc go for cheaper than the nokia's, but generally i've also seen those phones break more often / more easily too..

that probably is what youre paying for with nokia : quality

THAT KEYPAD lol

ok the keypad: altho rather small, they are very very slightly larger than the N70's, and the edges of the keys have a raised edge, so you can feel the seperation between keys quite easily in spite f the size, took me few minutes to get used to sms'ing with the new one as apposed to my 6610, but really its very very do-able (i do have very large hands)

the screen : trust me ;) YOU ARE GONNA LOVE IT :D

i want to post a pic taken with the N73 but dont know how to upload it ??? any suggestions guys??

Right - price without contract at Vodashop is R5699 ( )
Price at Exactmall is R4799
Price at CACell is R4499
Price at scaly Vodashop is R3899. (I think these phones are brought in from the Middle East. A Nokia 2600 I bought there has Islamic writing on the keypad and I could not verify the validity of the battery serial no on the Nokia site)

Don't think its worth it - Can't seem to get it at MTN stores.
