For speed you have to do a speed test
Stop alll your downloads and go to www.myadsl.co.za (hom,e page)
and select speed test at the top, then choose one of the speed tests.
Remember speeds are in kilo bits ber second (kb/s) ( 8 bits = 1 Byte [Kb/s] )

Also If you download a file through internet explorer or Netscape it shows you
the speed its downloading at in Kb/s

A 128k connection = max 16 Kb/s
256 connection = max 32Kb/s
512 connection = max 64Kb/s

i get this for 128k:

Your current bandwidth reading is:

30.40kbps

which means you can download at 3.8 KB/sec. from our servers

why is it so slow?

Remember there are lots of variables that determine your speed ( their side might be slow )
The test isn't that accurate

Also I have noticed that on large downloads the speeds start lower and then build up over a short time

Run the test again, you will seee it changes each time

The speed test only gives you the speed that you can download from a particular server at a particular time.
Other servers will be faster. Others slower

It is just a indicastion of what is happening at the time you do the test

but i cant download anything faster than 3kb/s.
ive tried kazaa, overnet, webpages here and overseas like easports and they all slooooooooow.

has any1 been able to upgrade their software?

<br />do i have to install windows operating system patches?
<hr height="1" noshade id="quote"></blockquote id="quote"></font id="quote">
Definitely yes, but not for speed, you need to install all security patches or your system will VERY soon be a rat's nest of viruses and worms and trojans, if it isn't already. Don't know why people put up with Windows anymore.
