any ideas for this? i dont want to yse russians or boerewors. normal viennas will do. but what to put on? bacon and onion/garlic is out of the question

Start with a decent sausage, go to a decent deli that specialises in this type of stuff. Maybe make your own relish to go with it.

Gourmet + <junk food> != Gourmet food;

I don't get the whole gourmet burger, gourmet this and gourmet that. These are two different types of food groups that should never be mixed. Gourmet food is gourmet food and junk food is junk food.

to me those arent junk foods if you make them yourself from scratch. the same thing can be applied to almost anything then of they sell it in places like spur. is steak junk food just because they sell it on mass at restaurants? no

Seriously man, you can't use a normal ground dogmeat and bone shard hotdog vienna and talk about gourmet anything. Get some high quality sausage meat to start with and then you can gourmet it up.

im thinking viennas. parted and "fused" so 2 of them make the "dog" with peppadews wrapped in macon, gurkins, melted mozarella/gouda with a dash of mustard and maybe tomato sauce if you want to ruin it

Oh... STREET FOOD vs. FAST FOOD

Gourmet, huge term...

Well, cannot give any advice... I make excellent Burrito-style hotdogs. See recipes on burritos and switch main with accompanying sausage according to the recipe.

Experiment, best advice...

Top 10 (http://www.buzzfeed.com/wallstreetjournal/the-10-most-decedent-gourmet-hot-dogs-from-around-354z), mine look more superior to this and I know the taste in my Burrito Hotdog recipe's exceed this. I do use chicken sausage and Boerewors mostly.

Well, sometimes the concept of street food beat the rest...

Go to any Pick and Pay with a kosher section and get some of their Nussbaums Frankfurters - they're the nicest hotdogs I've come across here in SA.

My favourite toppings include sauerkraut, chilli con carne, blue cheese, sautéd onions… and dill pickle relish.

Never seen one of those, probably not many jews around here.
Its usually a very small section and easy to miss. Those dogs make it worth looking for though. :)

Since when was steak every junk food? :erm:

We had boerie rolls last night....I smeared my rolls with humus (lots of it)...then the boerie and then a bit of mayo on that. IT WAS FCKING AWSOME!

Didn't get the kosher ones, but just normal smoked frankfutters was what I was looking for. Dill pickle, sweet peppadews and gouda/mozarella cheese. Teh Noms
