Must be reward for job well done.

Cape Town - Public servants will get a wage increase of 10.5% with effect from July 1, Public Service and Administration Minister Geraldine Fraser-Moleketi announced on Tuesday.

The prevailing wage agreement provided for increases effective from July 1 based on projected CPIX for the period April 1 2008 to March 31 2009, plus an additional 1% real increase, she told MPs in the National Assembly during debate on her budget vote.

Good for them. Teachers should be paid more though...
 
I'm guessing this will add +- 4% inflation
But our teachers need the money :)
 
Our teachers do need more!
My one teacher makes more out of private extra classes than his salary!!!
 
If they are paying off a home their real inflation rate is way higher than 10.5%. Even just fuel and food are running way above the official rate.

Except it is not more. And since this will add to inflation, it is even "less".

I do agree though that our GOOD teachers are underpaid.
 
How much do teachers make anyway?

I read in the paper that a police constable in DBN makes 15k pm.
Thats seems like a pretty decent salary for someone who never had to pay for studies. Sure they risk their lives, but lets not pretend there aren't other benefits.. lol pretty awesome deal if you ask me. I'd swap for that salary alone, nevermind all those other perks.

Doubt its 15k. SAPS constables earn about R5000-R6000 a month while Metro police earn a little more.

Yeah that sounds more like what I was thinking before reading the article. Its pretty damn hard for a single person to survive on such a small salary.. Rent is like half your salary, forget about actually "saving" money or ever buying your own place. Not gonna happen.
