I get about 700ms on GPRS with vodacom to SA servers (uunet/is etc). Seems rather high?

Also anyone know how to go about getting a real IP and not a VPN one (10.x.x.x)? (a traceroute from my phone show 1 hop ;)

Its wireless what do you expect, you think vodacom is going to have better pings than the likes of sentech or iburst?

Well yes I did expect better.

The physics of wireless support sub 10ms pings. Its the implementation and protocols that are letting us down.

Pings on my Wifi router at home give me 2-5ms on average.

mmm... I seem to get 360 to 410ms local and 750 to 900ms international

You need to move over to the internetvpn to get a 'real' IP. Give the 155 guys a shout and they provision you. Tell them you need to use a VPN client on your system ;)

Just remember that when you do this - you need to firewall your connection yourself. Otherwise you might find your cap chowed away by people trying to hack you or by some id10t in Russia running a continuos ping to your IP address. My feelings are that you should only use the internetvpn APN *only when you have to*, otherwise stick with the normal one!

How do i lower my pings to play games online, or atleast get a constant ping?
