Hi guys

My dad is trying to connect his windows 7 laptop to the internet via the cellphone. He tried requesting GPRS settings via the phone, but nothing gets sent to him. Is the CellC rep here to help, or anyone else.

Make sure the sim is data enabled (should be if it's fairly new)and that there is some credit on the sim.
Number to dial = *99#
APN = internet
Leave user name and password blank
Try connecting and browsing on the cell phone before tethering it to the laptop

You might receive more help if you specify what phone it is. By example from Nokia phones you must select mode of connection. Depends on the mode, PC will install drivers. If you see modem installed in device manader, you can go next step and create connection for this modem (which is in your phone). And this is what previous post is about. All above assumes connecting your phone to USB port.

Hi guys, thank you for your replies. He has a Nokia E63. Ovi suite installed and data bundles bought. Problem is he dials the number to get his setting from Cellc and nothing happens. He gets no sms to install the settings on his phone. Keep in mind that he is 76 years old.

When using the phone as a modem, you don't need the settings on the phone. The pc need to see the phone as a modem. PC suite on the pc will help with easy connection

Incorrect. You still need to setup APN. It is stored not on PC, but on the modem (phone) on first use.

He received the settings OTA, very much delayed. And it worked. Thanks again for your willingness to help.
