Ive just connected to the internet using my phone as a modem.... it took a FULL FIVE yes 5 Minutes to load this page! my meter is barely ticking over 1kBs...... WTF is going on? You know where i live... so answers please

Yeah same problem here..i also decided to use my phone as a modem and when i try to load a site a few kb get transferred then theres no data flow for like a minute. Im in pta though.

You're lucky. If I get 1kB/s on GPRS it's a miracle. But 3G however can easily go past 40k so there's no capacity problem. It seems like Vodacom is neglecting their 2G equipment. Get an MTN card. Their GPRS easily reaches 8k and their data bundles are cheaper for the moment.

Come to think of it. Even 3G is slow since about 5pm. It feels like I'm on GPRS (MTN's GPRS). Something is wrong. Probably still suffering from the effects of the Telkom sabotage.

GPRS can be very slow sometimes and very unreliable. Just browsing from my phone I have had several disconnects and slow downloads of things 30kb big.

Many more things that can go wrong over GPRS. So don't expect miracles, for the prices that you pay. Sadly that's just how it is most of the time :(

Strange that MTN's GPRS is faster and I only had 1 disconnect so far.

Probably that MTN implemeted it better. Better internet connection from them on and probably even better servers. Software also plays a big role in the whole set up. Vodacom could have some software that has alot of stupid settings causing its to disconnect or ping out. Might even be a phone problem/incompatibility. There are many things to look at when trying to figure it out.

I am on cellC and their GPRS on my phone sucks. I don't however think it's much of a coincidence that it sucks. Vodacom GPRS sucks as well and last time I used CellC GPRS is when most of cellC's services went through vodacom Towers(don't know what the situation is now though). Sounds to me like bad GPRS from Vodacom, which is bad news for you guys :(

dunno why, but my vodacom gprs is fine. 2-3sec page downloads and downloading @ 7-9kbps. Does vodacom really need to make it so expensive? R2/mb?

Like I said in one of my previous posts, their 3G is normally operating at its maximum. Except for today it's pathetic. Even though I have a clear signal nothing seems to get through. It seems like Vodacom is still having some capacity issues. I wonder if this is still somehow related to the Telkom sabotage.

Same here in Pretoria East (Mooikloof). No 3G, GPRS extremely slow since this morning. Was still OK last night.

I think v3g is giving priority to the HSDPA threads thats why we havent got an answer yet...

Yes, HSDPA is about 20 times faster than GPRS and thus we give 20 times more attention to it!....not.

I've been following this thread and have reported and asked for feedback on these issues.

V3g: i use 3g and hdpa as u know...just to check on these complaints, i switched to gprs- yes, its pathetic...normally i used to get between 12.5 kbps to 45 kbps and now only 7 to 12 kbps..something really wrong...i then tried MTNs gprs: an almost steady 45 kbps

well it seems to be back to normal here... i usally get a max of 8-9KBps over GPRS.... ofcourse i would like to use 3G BUT I HAVE NO COVERAGE.... but anyway....

Not here. If I ever get anything above 4KBps on GPRS I'll jump through the roof.
