GPS on phones?

Hi guys,

With the N82 and the N95, I understand you get GPS. I have a couple of questions.

Has anyone used the GPS?

Is it free out of the box or does it cost extra to enable?

Will it work when I travel to other countries or is it dependant on the Vodacom network?

N95 you buy maps, R800 lasts for 2years.
N82 its free and uses gprs to download maps so you get fresh updated maps and im usre it works overseas, i cant confirm it though..

N95 8GB you get two years navigation for South Africa for free.
Works a charm, can also use www.amazegps.com on it.

Sony Ericsson P1i comes with Wayfinder that downloads maps as you drive. I have managed to install TomTom with the SA maps and it looks great (does not have to download maps as you drive, so free....) and it does not expire in a year

I have a friend that got the N95 and he had to pay a fee to use the GPS... Is that possible?

I am getting the N82 from Vodacom.. Does the network have anything to do with it?

Its the 8GB variety of the N95 that comes with the Navigation licence for 2 years.

You certainly will never have to pay to use the physical GPS on the phone, but Nokia is charging for the use of their software, same as you'd have to pay for TomTom.

As I said, install Amaze, works perfectly.

Yes, the 6110 Navigator comes with R66 installed straight out of the box. If you travel to other countries you'll have to buy additional maps from the online store they are ~R500 per country or regions (e.g Pta) at R100.

Navigation is not free on nokia maps, you have to upgrade.

You referring to Google Maps? That does not have navigation.

well yes i wasn't talking about navigation, but normal GPS coordinates and mapping.
