Google maps. GO check the XDA forums, 5.8 was just released.

Google maps doesn't have voice directions does it ?

Hence my instruction to check the XDA forums, btw its pretty much potluck getting it to work, i brick blocked my phone trying.

Would not work for me with a rooted stock so i tried cyanogen, btw its KAKAKAKAKAKAKAKA. When trying to put the stock OS on the phone dies during install so the phone was screwed, should be getting it back from voda tomorrow though, too bad it was a nexus s and all my backups were on the non-removable memory card...

Maps safe, cyanogen not. I used the maps for about 2 weeks before installing cyanogen. It works for some and not for others, others use cyanogen without hassles, i personally would never suggest to anyone who likes their phone to try it, but no issues with the maps at all.

Ok by maps you do mean this one that enigma showed me ?

Yep, cyanogen is an OS mod, basically like a separate linux distro, only thing is it sux balls. Its missing a few essentials, like gmail being the most important, the fact that every icon you click on force closes is also slightly annoying. In 1 hour i had more crashes on my phone than i had all the years i used windows98

The brut mod worked well for everytime. The only thing I found is I needed to installed the renamed package, the one that replaces the standards maps did not work.

Never worked for me but brut stopped dev @ 4.6, onwhere is on 5.8 and their were major changes since then.

Its easy to get GMail on CM, you just need to read the instructions.

CM7 is far better than stock - I never bothered with the stock LG software, I just immediately loaded CM7 on. Not sure why you had so many issues, for me, CM7 has been awesome and has fixed a lot of issues that the phone had stock.
