I'm looking for an affordable (don't want to pay more than R500) but decent GPS watch for my daughter

Any suggestions?

Daughter got a Polaroid thing for Christmas. Bad signal means it does not work.

For under R500 you can get this old analogue no batteries needed GPS and strap it to her wrist.
You're welcome

i am assuming you mean a tracker rather than a fitness tracker?

We tried to get two of these for the kids over Christmas last year and it turned into a absolute mess. They sent the wrong one (hyperli) for just one of them and it was a massive process to sort out and we never got the right one. So my daughter got a phone instead. My son has the watch but honestly it does not work all that well. Also most schools ban any kind of smart watch that can receive calls so it is largely useless to us. The GPS accuracy is also rather poor, and the interface terrible.

Dammit. Came here to recommend that one. I don't have it but was thinking of getting it cause it checks all the boxes on paper.

It's "ok" but not very accurate.
The cellular signal is not great, when she is in our house she can't make or receive calls.
Uses some random 3'rd party Chinese software that keeps nagging to buy (and not a play store purchase, wants your CC details).
Call quality sucks.
The tracking is ok if she is outdoors, when she is indoors (in the school building for example) it can be off by km's and frequently puts her location as in an open field, in a squatter camp, random buildings and houses.
Non standard charging clip on thing, daughter broke the first one, I bought two more.

Basically, she wanted to stay home for the last school holiday.
I bought her a phone as I have no faith in the watch..

She still wears the watch to school but more so she can call us if needed and we can give her hearts if she does good things.

Polaroid watch only accepts calls from pre-approved numbers.

Ah, may actually suit my needs then. I want it to locate the kid at outdoor events like when we go mountain biking or trail running. Or on the rare occasions he MTB's on his own.

I tried to explain that to the school and they did not care. Even mentioned how we had configured it to turn off calls during school hours and they did not care. Schools with 37 kids in a class don't care about exceptions to the rules, they apply it as a blanket rule. You can keep it in your bag turned off until after school but during school it cannot be visible.

Anyways, like I said, the product is not great regardless. @AstroTurf summarized its issues nicely. The only one I will add is poor battery life. Needs to be charged a lot.

Get your kid an android phone and set it up so you can track it from google maps under parent settings.

Dont bother with a watch or pendent that needs to be charged separately and wont work as well as a low/mid range smartphone
