It is indeed, but when you've got 2/3 year old cards going at the same price?
True, the secondhand market is waaaay overpriced.
1080ti R10k XD no warranty
But a 1080ti is an absolute beast and will smoke that card. They also go for closer to R8k at the moment because I've been looking the last week.

I am not sure I would agree on the Smoke part.

They tend to trade blows

How can that be, the 1080ti is 384bit and has probably double the cores?

It doesn't have tensor cores and has slower memory but still
You can go check few places I made the same checks. I really want a new card but 10k is my budget limit

Interesting, maybe it's the much higher clock speeds:
1600 MHz vs 2815 MHz
The 1080ti destroys it in just about everything else, the memory bandwidth for instance is 484.4 GB/s vs 144.0 GB/s

I also had the 1660 and i loved myne it still plasy AA games but i waned 144fps on most games and went for the 3060ti
I wanted to be able to do 1440p even it was just above 60 so I went with a 2060 super at the time, the 1660ti does handle 1080p over 60 at least.

I just tried Lara Croft 20th anniversary on my 1070ti and it ran 4k max detail and it ran flawlessly, a bit of an old game but I can't see a 1080ti letting you down.

All else being equal what are the real world advantages of the newer RTX/XT vs GTX cards?

The warranty :(. Only reason I would buy a new card when 2 cards perform the same.

Also living in the Kalahari has some issues with meeting face 2 face. Sure I buy lot of second hand stuff and let them courier to me... But buying R10k worth of stuff makes me uneasy

Don't get me wrong if the 1080ti was like 5k ... then yea sure

Considering a new 1080ti way back then was what, R11k new?

I think I paid R6k for my Zotac 1070 from @Gtx Gaming back in 2017/2018, back when we thought prices were still 'good'
