A week from now you won't regret spending that little bit extra as you are gonna have an awesome gaming experience.

ooohhh I think I need to buy this card. 512 bit :D

Buss width is not everything when one takes into account the overall architure, the GTX 960 got hammered for having a 128-bit buss but it performs well due to the compression used.

The 8GB vram on that gpu is way overkill I reckon, 6GB would have been more than sufficient, no idea what the cost saving would have been though. Hey you'll never run out of vram though!

Get me one as well :D

Time to trade in this old 7950... This beautiful beast of a card... I hate to see it go.

Sure, bought my motherboard through him. Definitely the go to guy for me.

I have an HD7970 and play at 1080p, and the 280X is a rebadged HD7970 GHz Edition. It's a competent card, but can no longer max out most new graphically demanding games and achieve a decent framerate. I definitely wouldn't recommend downgrading.

Just got a used 280X so confirmation bias incoming. It's a beast of a card for the price. To the op, I have a 650watt super flower in my machine.

Cheers

Yeah it's a great card. I bought mine brand new from Wootware for R4k, which at the time was the deal of the century. I won't replace it until the next generation of video cards are out and fully support DX12.

I bought the Asus Strix R9 390 a week or two ago, and I have no regrets. The only bottleneck in my entire system is my aging AMD Phenom II X6 1090t, and almost above average GSkill RAM.

Be warned, those cards are massive - I thought the 7870 I was using before was massive :P And the LED's by the power connectors are always on, so you have a permanent lamp - I've reached the acceptance stage.

A cool feature is that the fans only kick in when the card hits 65 degrees, so you have virtually silent operation (until you start gaming). The flip side to that though, is that the idle temp is quite high unless you setup a custom profile to make the fans kick in at a lower temp.

I got a 750W Seasonic PSU to go with it. Figured a PSU that's way more than what I need would run more efficiently (I don't completely recommend it though, as it morphs into a turbine when gaming).

I'm using the Antec 750 HCG PSU, I have a PCS+ 390 so it should be work well with your 290 :)

Upgrading to a 290/390 can be costly when you factor in a new PSU but so worth it in the end!

Yeah specially since the 7850 is now almost useless :D

I prefer to have too much power rather than the other way round, and it will eventually give me the opportunity to xfire, although I would need a better mobo

My plan is to x-fire when frame rates start dipping below 60fps.
But I seriously doubt 750W will be enough. I seen some benchmarks that show the 390 can draw over 350W at times. Will need at least 1000 to 1200W with my CPU and x-fire GPU combo.
