i found an old GPU and its motherboard. i'd like to know what its worth today, its a 2005
Biostar V6802XA52 Nvidia Geforce 6800 XT 512 MB/256 bit DDR2.

Not too much. Biostar were pretty cool back in the day. The 6800 too...I lusted after a 6800 Ultra, but I could only afford a 6600GT :(

it obviously has no sata ports but it could be added as theres 2 empty sata slots stated on the board

what would you guys recommend as a average GPU nowadays? if someone were to update their desktop a bit but not spend too much money?

I'm playing with a HD 4870 ...
Mostly GW2 though, so the requirements are pretty low.

But, when the time comes for an upgrade, then I will have to fork out a bit more money, as it would probably be EVERYTHING that needs replacement.

It's sometimes nice to look back at some of your old kit. I remember my awe at the size of my new 9800GTX+ compared to the 6600GT. I had to temporarily substitute power to it via a old 240W AT PSU I had lying around since the 450W I had in there could not cope.

Obviously depends on your budget, but if you don't mind lowering settings.

I wouldn't go lower than:

But this better:
http://www.wootware.co.za/powercolo...it-pci-express-3-0-desktop-graphics-card.html

But this better:
http://www.wootware.co.za/powercolo...dr5-pci-express-3-0-256bit-graphics-card.html

Then this even better:
