Hi all

Another of my new rig related topics, I want to know which of the following Graphics Cards would be better? I have looked at Archers GPU comparison, but his doesn't offer some of the following comparisons

1x EVGA GeForce GTX 570 HD 2560MB GDDR5
2x EVGA GeForce GTX 560(non-TI) in SLI
2x Sapphire AMD Radeon HD 6870 in CrossFire
2x EVGA GeForce GTX 560 Superclocked 2048 MB GDDR5 in SLI
2x EVGA GeForce GTX 550 Ti 2048 MB GDDR5 in SLI

Could you please put this in order of which would offer the best frames per second, if not just tell me which is the best :D

560 TI SLI > 560 SLI> 6870 CX> 570> 550ti

And if possible, take 2GB above 1GB.
Therefore 560ti 2GB SLI > all.
You will get quite far with a 2GB card, especially a 2GB 560ti.

I would probably also take a 2GB card.
It's not so important though but my reasoning is as follows.
To run Skyrim's new texture pack a 1GB graphics memory is recommended.
Cutting edge games coming in 1-2 years from now might require 1GB plus for texture packs.
Texture packs is very niche though and most games don't even get it.

Of above the HD6870 give the most gigaflops per second. About 2016 Gigaflops.
Don't now if it effectively double in crossfire

Heres how I would place them:

1. 2x Sapphire AMD Radeon HD 6870 in CrossFire
2. 2x EVGA GeForce GTX 560 Superclocked 2048 MB GDDR5 in SLI
3. 2x EVGA GeForce GTX 560(non-TI) in SLI
4. 1x EVGA GeForce GTX 570 HD 2560MB GDDR5
5. 2x EVGA GeForce GTX 550 Ti 2048 MB GDDR5 in SLI

Would it make much difference in terms of f/ps it I took 2GB instead of 1GB?

It would have an effect, dependent on the amount of memory required by a game. So it's a yes with some games and a no with others. You would however be putting a decent step forwards in terms of looking an extra year into the future.

It's true that the GTX560 TI is a big step up from a standard GTX 560, but you didn't
add it to your list.

2x GTX560 TI's in SLI would trump all of the options on your list. I wouldn't make
GPU memory your top priority. It doesn't make a huge difference in terms of framerate.

That is not entirely true. Take BF3 for example which will utterly destroy GTX560Ti in SLI if all settings are maxed out. Why? Because BF3 wants around 2GB+ VRAM at max settings. So while average fps is still around 40-50, you get dips to as low as 3fps, which makes the game unplayable. Drop AA though, and you'll be fine. Same applies to HD6870 (well in fact any card with only 1GB RAM). There simply isnt enough RAM in those cases to store everything that needs to be stored.

So in the end, as always, it depends on what you want to be able to do with your rig. Want AA on all the time, higher res, multiple screens? Well then VRAM is important.

What are you going to use your system for?? Most games really doesn't benefit from multi gpu setups unless you have a monster of a monitor that can go higher res then HD or you using more then one monitor. If not i'd recommend going for maybe just one monster of a gpu then multi gpus.

Its decided I'm going to get

2x EVGA GeForce GTX 560Ti 2GB GDDR5 in SLI

Will a 600 Watt Corsair CX600 be sufficient for the 2 GPU's and overclocking a 3930K to 4.5GHz or should I get a bigger PSU?

You'd be better off getting a bigger PSU.
The 560ti will use around 25A and the CX600 provides 40A on its 12V rail.
The GS700 has 56A which will be enough.

CX600 does not have enough connectors for a dual GPU setup from what I can tell, so you will have to use some converters to power the GPUs. In terms of overall wattage, you're looking at around 500W max full load draw, so 600W should be good

Or you can have a look at the antec 750w high current pro.I think it costs the same.

What about the Xion High Performance 1000 Watt? Or the OCZ 700W StealthXStream ?
