Hi there.

So my GTX570 sli is giving me some problem so only running 1 at the moment. i'm running 2560x1440 and maybe I can do 96Hz. So I'm looking for a new card to go with my new system. Let's rather say my money is not to much of an issue but I won't get a titan.

I have the following in mind
7970 Lightning
GTX780 Lightning
GTX780 referance
wait for new AMD cards
waiting for new Nvidia cards

I'm going to try and overclock this card as far as I can just so that I can wait a little bit longer
Please give me other suggestions but please no crossfire or SLI setups as I'm sick and tired of struggling with my games etc etc.

I play mostly Shooters, Racing games

Thanks

It is a single card though. Single pcb with 2 cores. I know because i have a 6990. Single slot, single card with two processors.

Yes i noticed your no crossfire but it isn't crossfire as in two cards. So perhaps research it.

http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/radeon_hd_7990_review there we go, pictures, performance, explanation and final verdict, considering they have halved the price it would be a wise investment.

Still crossfire. 2xGpu's is crossfire so sorry not going to happen

Check the review, it has gpu comparison charts on all the games. So while it is a 7990 review it does compare the 7990 to all the cards you mentioned.

yes I know but still crossfire. It's not about the Performance. I just want 1 card that's it. can't convince me unless i see it for myself with my own eyes

Dude, haha look at the comparison charts

7970 Lightning
GTX780 Lightning
GTX780 referance

You will see all those compared, i am not trying to convince you to buy the 7990 lol, Look at the comparison charts for the gpu's in question. Forget the 7990 and look further down.

I think you're trolling now. Read Killa's post again. He isn't saying get the 7990.

Dual GPU on a single card is not SLI.

Actually it is, well with amd it is crossfire. Suffer the same issues like new games only using one card, microstutter when running both cards until amd update the drivers.

My bad dude, for some reason i thought you said 7870 and amd, never picked the nvidia aspect.

Thanx chevron appreciate it(we don't see eye to eye but glad to see it's more a thread to thread situation) :D but i don't think nelis was trolling.

There we go. Nelis guru can't compare every different brand that is basically overclocked and called hawk, lightning xt and all the other names.

If money is nothing to you and spending 9k on a single gpu that gets nailed by a country mile by something that is cheaper or around the same price then go for it but any logical person is at looking at money vs performance with 8-10k to spend would not buy the 780 over the 7990. If you say money is no issue and you don't mind paying 10k for a card that gets stomped on by the 7990 each to their own.

Damn even my 2 year old 6990 isn't that far behind it and i only paid 6k for it. Crazy money for the performance it offers. Out pricing themselves in a big way, then again it may not be that expensive in other countries so it might be priced in the right bracket but not for us.

Nope scratch that, both 7990 and 780 are priced in a similar range on new egg. AMD have done something remarkable here, they have taken the 780 which is horrifically priced and made the 7990 the same price and it stomps the 780. I know amd can easily make money by dropping the price because i bought my 6990 for about 6k, i think it was 600-700 dollars on newegg but the rand was around 7ish i think so esquire had them on special for 4999 ex vat the 6990 that is.

So all amd were doing is pricing their fastest card up against the most expensive nvidia or slightly lower knowing they are making a killing and when nvidia come out with their next top single card they drop the 7990 in the mix and screw nvidia badly. Let's say the rand is 10. 6.5k from newegg add in shipping and so on, perhaps it won't be 9-10k. Should be lower maybe 7-8k i would imagine with the smaller brands.

wow 7990 is about 10K. lol ok I must admit I want to spend as little as possible. i can get the 7970 lightning for about R6500.

I can spend up to R8K but if i can get a card that will perform really well at a bit higher I will spend money on that.

I'm curious to see an actual review and price for the Galaxy GTX 780 HOF: http://wccftech.com/galaxy-geforce-gtx-780-hof-edition-gpu/
Unfortunately I can't find any specs on the MSI GTX 780 Lightning, even though some sites mentioned that it would've been available like 3 days ago already!

@killadoob:
could you please repost that Newegg link, but this time inside the URL tags? :)

Personally i would buy from newegg and use http://www.myus.com/ to get it here. 6500 for a 7970 when you can import the 7990 for about 8k. 5 day shipping. That is what i would do, i think 6500 for the 7970 is excessive and importing a 7990 should come within your budget but it is your call hey.

Ok i see what you mean, sorry lol just put amd 7990 or nvidia 780 in the search, the problem is not the url tags, it is the search.
