GPu upgrade time

Historically, many games tend to favour either AMD or Nvidia, sometimes quite significantly, and so cards that are said to be roughly equivalent in average performance may vary quite a lot in specific games. So, you might want to consider which games/franchises you will play most and check benches for those particular games/engines and factor that into which card you should get. Of course, this can't tell you about performance in games that have yet to be released, but you could also go by the 'Nvidia TWIWMTBP' and 'AMD Gaming Evolved' indicators, which will tell you which GPU maker is bribing the developer to favour their products.
