GPU Value Comparisons

i have leadtek gtx 560 (non ti) can get another for R1700. in % how much more performance will i gain? what i dont like of 660 is the 192 bit ram. gtx 560 have 256bit.

R1700 is rather expensive for a GTX560, unless it is brand new.
You can get close to 80% performance increase, if not even more in some cases!

Don't worry about the memory bandwidth being 192-bit. Just look at actual performance in the reviews!
It's like picking a 5GHz AMD CPU over a 3.4GHz Intel CPU, when the 3.4GHz Intel CPU performs much better in all the games.

Lastly, what motherboard, PSU & case do you have?
If you don't have like a 750W PSU, motherboard with 8x + 8x PCI-E 2.0 slots (preferably with 3 PCI slots inbetween the 2x 16x slots, so that you don't run into temperature problems) and a biggish case, then I'd suggest that you rather go for the GTX660 or HD7870.

Need help/advice. Ive got a Intel E2180 Dual Core 2.0Ghz with 2gb ddr2 ram. I need a new graphics card as my old one has retired. It was a Nvidia Geforce 8500gt 512mb. I need a stronger but still compatible card please. What should I look at that is still available in the shops??

As much as I agree you need a better GPU, your CPU is just meeting the minimum requirements for new games. So depending on what you plan on playing you should look at getting that upgraded with more RAM.

What's your budget for a GPU?

I have no spare cash so I'm kinda desperate here. Looking at less than a R1000.

Thanks, will have a look. Will the above gpus be compatible though?

Yes your PSU should handle them with ease. I'm not sure if it has a PCI-e 6/8 pin connector, but you'd be safe with using a converter if you have to as that card uses 1 PCI-e 6 pin for power and doesn't draw that much juice.

there is no real compatibility to worry about with CPU, only with the motherboard as this is what the card connects to but I'm pretty certain that your motherboard what ever it is uses PCI-E as opposed to AGP which died years ago!! :)

One more thing, pci or pci-e? What is the difference? I'm a noob of sorts.

So Amd or Nvidia? Except for personal preference, are there any other differences or requirements to run? Iow can any system run any card?

Thanks pada, I was still recovering from the Linkin Park concert yesterday :D
