GPU Value Comparisons

Can anyone recommend a graphics card thats around the R500 range that will play 1080p videos well. Thats all I need. Havent been in the PC scene since the days of the 9800GT so I dont even know where to start. Thanks.

PS Will probably be getting it from RebelTech.

Anything really...
But I do recall if you're in Linux, you'll probably want an Nvidia card. And if you want bitstreaming audio over HDMI you want AMD. Otherwise, its all the same really. I'm running with a HD5450 and no issues here

Lately I've had more success with AMD graphics cards under Linux than NVidia graphics cards. It used to be otherway round. Have a look at the HP Microserver thread in this sub-forum, because they're mostly using those servers for media servers, and they all REQUIRE a graphics card capable of 1080p video decoding!

my friend is bringing me an Asus graphics card from Sweden. I want to know if Asus south africa will honor the guarantee on the card,or will I have to return the card to Sweden for guarantee purposes. No stock in SA available on this card untill the end of August.

Swamped at work today, but should have GTX660 numbers up before Monday. Looks great from the little I quickly looked at, price is a bit high for whats supposed to be mid range, but the value is definitely still there

$300 is a bit high for them I think, but they fit nicely. The 7870 still looks like value though.

Thanks for the tables- very helpfull!

Made my decision easier to just get a 2nd hand HD 6950 for CF and skip the current generation HD and GTX cards.

Charts should be updated with the GTX660Ti numbers
Bloody good card, bit expensive maybe for the segment I expected it to fill, but if you can afford the roughly R3500 price tag there is nothing close to it in terms of value for money.
Due to this card, AMD has announced price drops on some of its cards, I will see if that filters down to the SA market, but for now, GTX660Ti or bust. Its an easy recommendation

The cheapest one in town is R3018: http://www.digitalhydra.co.za/pny-geforce-gtx-660-ti-xlr8.html

Looks like special pricing to me, so R3200 is what you're looking at. R3300 is whats in the charts, and most OC versions are at 3500+ which is what the sites used to review with. So I've actually been a bit kind giving stock pricing to OC version FPS results, but I think its ok for this card

3300 is a fair average. Some of the 3500 oc cards ship with borderlands2 which increase their value a bit. It's actually tricky to even get non-oc'd versions these days. I'm a fan of the MSI TF version for 3500 with Borderlands2, that's just a great value deal.

Seems Archer is slacking.. where is the 660ti SLI data? :p

Not enough data, currently only one of the sites I use has SLI results. That site tends to have the highest numbers out of the three, so that wouldnt work out properly (I bet I'd get >100% scaling)

Ya thought as much, can't find many benchies with it either.

Hey guys I'm stuck with a really annoying problem .... I just cant seem to make my mind up on a gtx 660 ti or gtx670.... I'm looking at MSI power editions for both models but cant seem to put my finger on it! im looking to play at 1920x1080 res pref. on maxed out settings for current and future games like hitman absolution etc. What I need to know is if the R1200 differnce between the cards is justifiable.

Guys,

Need new GTX 570 for SLI. Already have one and would love to get another for extra boom.

Where can i get one? Got My Gigabyte OC edition for R3400 is December last year so would pay max R2600 for new one now! (less is better)

The GTX570 costs more than that brand new! You could get one for say R2800 I suppose, but then it'll be like Inno3D and not Gigabyte branded.
The prices didn't really decline in the mid-high range (GTX460/HD6850-HD6950/GTX560Ti) section.

how much performce do one really gain by sli? i have gtx 560..must i sli, or get gtx 660?

2x GTX560Ti's will outperform a single GTX660 in most games, but you'll need decent motherboard and power supply for that.
The GTX660Ti may even beat the 2x GTX560Ti's - but it is pretty difficult to find these reviews.
