GPU Value Comparisons

When i asked about the powercolor 7950, they said 2-3 weeks...thats just toooooo long :( lol. would like to get the 7970 tho...
That sucks yeah.. What card are you using currently? If you have something that could play your games at Medium without problems and you want the best value for money, it's worth the wait IMO. Otherwise, if you can't wait, then get that Sapphire 7950. Still good value for money.

Sapphires also out of stock..even intl....lol. So i have to wait for powercolor one. I Sepose the performance of powercolor and sapphire will be same about? And both can overclock the same, as i have read MANY reviews the sapphire do overclock very good...

LOL! Yeah, they are the same in terms of performance. The Powercolor cards run a bit hotter I think, but for that price, that is something minimal...

I'm looking to upgrade from my 5670 to something with more gaming power, but I'd like to keep it in the budget card range. I will only consider AMD cards. Could anyone reccommend one? Ive been looking at the 7850, but I'm not entirely sure it's worth its price.

PowerColor AX7850 2GB + 2games for R2100. Good value for money.. If they have stock...

Thanks for the recommendation. Seems that there is no stock at the moment though. Also, I am stuck with an LGA775 motherboard, and it still has pci-e x16 1.1. I've heard that the AMD cards arent backwards compatible to 1, only to 2.0? I have been unable to find an lga775 motherboard with PCi-e 2.0, or any LGA775 motherboard actually.

What do you all thing about the HD 5870? I know it is quite an old card, but it should still pack some punch. I can get one for a pretty decent price.

They were good cards, yes. However, I'll recommend you save up to get yourself a new PC. On a budget, there are decent options around, that will most likely outperform what you have now. Old components, such as DDR2 are getting quite expensive, and it's much better to upgrade. I had an LGA775 mobo with PCi-e 2.0 and DDR3, but I don't think you can get those anymore. Just go through the forum and read some suggestions, there are lots of threads for people on a budget, looking to build a new PC, and if you ask there, people will most certainly help.

Edit: Try and get a buyer for some of the components you have now, to get a budget for new components. How much for the HD5870?

Thanks EmileS. I am looking at buying a new PC, but I want to keep the current as up to scratch as possible, so that I can give it to the missus to use. That is why I was considering getting the 5870, she should be able to play all of her games on it using that. It should also be sufficient while I build my new PC, and would give me time to get the parts I want, and not the parts i am willing to settle with.

That's good. If the HD 5870 is compatible and you can get it for a good price, then go for it. Personally, I won't pay more then 1.3k for such an old GPU.

Same here sir, I can get one for 1k, and I was hesitant on that even.

Seems reasonable. If you have the exact model description, go read some reviews on it, will give you a better understanding on its performance and worth. Try to negotiate for R800?

I've been considering doing that. Card has a custom Arctic cooler on it, so It's very possible that he has been overclocking. He has 2 of the cards, so he must have been running it in crossfire as well. Regardless, if the card is not to my liking, i'll sell it to one of the guys at work, some of them are hooked on Bitcoin, and want the high AMD #/s rate.

5870 for r1000 is pretty good value. They do still go around r1200. R800 if you can get it...well yea take it. Otherwise if you want to pass let me know.

Sure thing, will do. I'm going to go have a look at it tomorrow.

GTX560 is a pretty good card as far as I have heard...I just prefer Nvidia. You could get a gtx560 new for about 1500 a while back. The places I have seen that still have 5870s price them at about 2500-2600 new
