GPU Value Comparisons

GTX560 is a pretty good card as far as I have heard...I just prefer Nvidia. You could get a gtx560 new for about 1500 a while back. The places I have seen that still have 5870s price them at about 2500-2600 new

The reason they price them at R2500 new is because they are obsolete and no longer being sold, so they haven't updated their pricing to reflect. A 560 non-Ti should sell for r1000 easily though. And do you mean you prefer AMD?

Yes, I thought this might be the reason as well. Yes, my apologies, i meant that I prefer AMD. Also, the guy selling the cards came back today, and said he had an offer for R1 500 for the card. I will not be purchasing it.

Advice please.
I've been looking at gpu's for over a week now and still don't know which card :/

Budget is 1500..maybe 1800
Note to self:i can buy through my uncle that is registred by rectron, pinnacle, sahara and esquire..so i can get these cards on cost.

I was thinking radeon..but geforce has great cards to...so please which card should i go for and why?thanks :)

Radeon HD7770 (Best value for money and under R1500)

The reviews I have read on the HD 7770 mostly say it is better to spend more on a higher card, like 7850.

The ti models are just overclocked versions of the regular models as far as I understand.

7770 is quite a poor experience. You are better off buying something 2ndhand like a 560ti which goes now around 1300 on carb. I have a 7850 now and I'm chuffed to bits with it, fantastic little card.

Awesome, thanks for this post. I was looking at the 7850. Do you have the 1 gb or 2 Gb version?

wish i could afford the 7850 :/

like i said budget is between 1500-1800(not exl vat)

i currently have a GTS250 :/ ..And it started doing cute tricks like freezing my system about 6 times a day with the whole screen pixled with red and green dots..

so even the 7790 looks decent

You could always pick up a decent 2nd hand card at that price. 6950 or gt560ti, as mentioned above.

PLUS where do you find a 2nd hand 6950?i've heard these cards are insane on performance

They are very good cards. Can be very tricky to find, we all went on a hunting spree, when I finally had some Nvidia guys at work that wanted AMD cards, mainly due to bitcoin mining. We came across a 5870, a 7970(this one was expensive though, almost 3k, one of the guys bought it), and a 6950. Best be careful though, some sellers may be dodgey. Check gumtree and junkmail.

another reason i don't want to go for something 2nd hand ..

Well the HD7790 is cheaper than the 650ti ,and believe it's better to..
