R9 290x reviews are in. It's a killer. $550 and it equals or beats GTX Titan. Complaints about the thermals but we'll see third parties bringing out better solutions. The new EVGA tech is very promising. Plus deltas are way down which means the drivers have been improved a lot. Awesome.
Yes, it's awesome! Pity that prices here in SA start at R8900, way off from the suggested retail price of $550.

You can always get the powercolor one. I'm not sure to get one of these, or to get an axtra 7900 series for crossfire...

Get one for CF. I've not seen the PowerColor one yet, but I'm waiting, hopefully it will be better priced (I'm sure it will be).

I wonder how 2x280X would compare to a 290X?

Well I have not used it to its full potential but as for play Borderlands2 Battlefield 3 and NFS Most Wanted on full res it is pretty awesome! Here is a list of it features
PS it looks pretty bad ass in a case too;) plus you get 4 free game with Radeon Gold

Care to post a review?
I'm looking at the same card.

I got a MSI 7950 Twin frozer a few weeks ago, i must say great value for money.

Got about 50 fps on battlefield 4 beta with settings at its highest, although all the texture packs wasn't released yet, but its a good indication how it will perform when the game gets released.

Currently considering the following:

Powercolor AX7950 3GB or can get the following from a supplier Gigabyte Geforce 760 GTX OC 2GB (Works out cheaper than the Powercolor)

OR I can fork out more and get the Gigabyte Geforce 760 GTX OC 4GB.

Any advice for a noob?! haha

So I'm going to upgrade my current graphics card (Radeon 5870) to something else.

Currently considering either Radeon 7950, GTX 760 or GTX 670. I need the graphics card to be the most future-proof as possible.

Radeon 7950

Pros of the Radeon 7950: •More memory bandwidth
•Slightly better performance than both GTX 670 and GTX 760 in more graphics intensive games like Metro Last Light and Crysis 3
•More central processing power?
•Newer architecture than the GTX 670?

Cons of the Radeon 7950: •Uses more power
•Slightly worse performance than both GTX 670 and GTX 760 for Nvidia optimized games

GTX 670

Pros of the GTX 670: •Slightly better performance than both the GTX 760 and Radeon 7950 for Nvidia optimized games
•Uses less power than the Radeon 7950

Cons of the GTX 670: •Older architecture than the GTX 760 and Radeon 7950?
•Uses more power than the GTX 760

GTX 760

Pros of the GTX 760: •Slightly better performance than the Radeon 7950 for Nvidia optimized games
•Uses less power than the GTX 670 and Radeon 7950
•Newer architecture than the GTX 670?

Cons of the GTX 760: •Slightly worse performance overall than the GTX 670 and Radeon 7950

From all the research I've done on these graphics cards, it seems like the GTX 670 edges out the GTX 760 while the Radeon 7950 beats both in most cases (except for Nvidia optimized games).

Also another positive factor for the GTX 760 is that it's more power efficient than both the 670 and the 7950.

But what advantages does the GTX 760 give over the GTX 670? In most benchmarks, the GTX 670 always slightly edges out the GTX 760. Is it the new architecture of the GTX 760 that will make it more future-proof than the GTX 670?

Well, I don't think you'll see much difference between the 7950 and the GTX760. The decision comes down to the games you get...

Both cards offer different game bundles with the cards, so check what games you like and then choose. BTW, just wait for another 2 weeks or so, for the Nvidia price-cuts to hit RSA. Then the GTX760 should be about R400 cheaper.

Also, the 4GB version is pointless, don't even consider for gaming.

What prices are you paying?
What about the R9-280x @ R3799??

Pardon my ignorance. Which of the current games would be nvidia optimised.

Most of the current games are Nvidia optimised but that doesn't mean much when you're on top end cards.
PhysX for one is only available on Nvidia.
Games like Batman Origins are therefore optimized for Nvidia cards.
Having played it on Nvidia & Radeon cards, I battle to see the value of PhysX sometimes.
