GPU Value Comparisons

It's a decent card. It is roughly the same as a 7870 Myst Le. I have one now and I'm not struggling to max anything I play. Getting a 660ti tomorrow hopefully :D

Agreed, very good card, especially in the "bang for the buck" criteria...660ti....meh, I will not be biased... :p

Considering I'm not paying any additional amount to get the 660ti over the 270x and it performs better most of the time I don't see what there is to be biased about.

well, technically the only downside to the nvidia card is if you are mining altcoins. Other than that, I am just an AMD fan, that's all.

The disparity of mining from amd to nvidia isn't as vast as it used to be, but I've never mined and I don't really intend to start now. Mantle will be another advantage if and when it ever delivers. Till then I still get better driver experiences with nvidia. I mean only a few months ago amd fixed the microstuttering, an I still can't get onboard working since installing the 270x. The 270 is a lovely card otherwise though, no complaints there. Try not to bring your personal biases into your recommendations.

If it was a recommendation, I would not have mention that anyone take AMD over Nvidia, but because it is you, and the fact that you recommend and comment on this thread as much as I do, and more, I know you know gpus and was not making a recommendation, as you would choose the card that best fits your needs. I do agree that a personal preference does not necessarily make sense to a potential buyer.

I agree on the drivers at the moment, Nvidia does have the the upper hand there at the moment.

Guys I always used to be a Nvidia guy, will I not regret getting the R9280X from Powercolor? Im in the process of choosing parts for a new build

Why would you regret it? I couldn't care less which brand I go with. I used to have a GTX560, and now I have an HD7970. I love my current card, but if Nvidia has the best value for money when it's time to upgrade I won't hesitate to switch back.

Yip, makes sense to buy based on price vs performance or bang for buck.

Thanks bud, Im probably going to get this badboy!

I would say that a better brand name GPU makes for a better gaming experience mostly from a thermal/heat/noise control perspective with their coolers and components - and also local warranties. Top brands for me are always MSI, Gigabyte (as long as they don't use blue PCBs), Asus, EVGA.

Hey Archer
Any chance you could do an update? My GTX 560 needs an upgrade soon.

Why is the GTX970 not on Sybaritic? I usually go onto their site to see whats on the market. Is it an older card?
My maximum budget would be R3K.
And I don't understand why a Powercolor card is cheaper than say a Gigabyte or MSI card. Is it like BMW make a better 1600 engine than a Tata?

Differences between brands
Warranty period
Extra cables (DVI, HDMI etc)
Power delivery components (cheap components will tend to whine, and will allow a slightly lower OC)

Although sometimes you are literally just paying for the name, so always do the research

Also the quality of cooling makes a difference to the price. The premium custom cooled gpu brands like Twin Frozr, DirectCUII etc can attach a premium but in my experience it is actually worth it. Nothing drives me crazy more than a fan noise on a passive GPU.
