GPU Value Comparisons

Updates complete, let me know if anything looks wrong. I also changed the listing, its now sorted by price. Let me know if I should change it back to cost/fps.

Update summary: GTX580 has a 12% increase over the GTX480 which is not enough in my opinion. Why you ask? Well there are four cheaper options that beat the GTX580 on pure FPS (hence beating it silly on the value front), namely GTX460 1gb SLI, and crossfire of the HD5850, HD6850 and HD6870. Granted, those four are all dual GPU options, but some come in at over R1200 less!

Thought these prices might interest you http://www.wootware.co.za/catalogsearch/result/?q=vtx3d+hd68&x=0&y=0 ! Seems they starting to make a price gap for the 69xx when they launched

Thanks. Used their standard pricing (not the special intro prices) to update the charts. Now anything with a HD68xx card (single or dual). The setup that sticks out the most? -

Dual HD6850, about 10fps more than a GTX580 for R2000 less!! This will become my best value pick for now

Yes, I know the GTX570 has been out a while, but some of us do have things like work to do :p I'm also trying to update prices since many HD5xxx and GTX4xx have seen huge price drops

Ok, updates should be complete today, and should also feature the new HD6950 and HD6970. And with the price drops mentioned last time there will be some surprises in the value for money chart ;)

Yar, saw yesterday that woot! are selling gtx 470's for R2500-2700. Its frikken mental how some prices are dropping!

Updates complete. Let me know if there are any errors. Also, is the image showing smaller now? In preview mode its fine but once saved it goes small :( Anyone know how to fix? In the meantime, just follow the link to view the charts in all their glory.

I was actually reading the 69xx review on anand and was wondering when you were gunna update the charts.. But nice work :) Does look like an interesting christmas for consumers assuming they can get their hands on the cards..

It's still quite difficult to find cheap HD 6950's in SA.

So far the cheapest that I've seen was the Club3D one at LandmarkPC, which retails for R3140.
It is quite a good buy, seeing that you can most likely mod it into a HD 6970. See here: http://www.techpowerup.com/articles/overclocking/vidcard/159

Archer, could you perhaps add the Rand values on the Price chart, like you've done with the FPS/Cost chart... whenever you're going to update the charts again :)

Looks like everyone who has tried it so far has done so successfully, going by the reports in their forums.

VTX3D HD 6950 going for R2800 already!
Unfortunately it seems like Wootware cannot get the VTX3D HD 6850 / Gainward GTX 460 for that cheap any more :(

So now I don't know where people can get such cheap entry level gaming graphics cards like the GTX 460 768MB / HD 6850 any more.
WootWate has the Inno3D GTX 460 768MB for R1500, but I'm not sure about stock levels though.

It just gets harder and harder to pick :/
Was gonna get the 6870 but for only R600 you get all that beefy goodness and a bios hack.

Yeah, it's quite difficult to pick a card now.

You can also get like a Inno3D GTX 470 for R2500, but at stock speeds the unlocked VTX3D HD 6950 would be better value for money. I think you should be able to overclock the GTX 470 with at least 20% though.

Very soon the Sandy Bridge CPU's and GTX 560 would make things very interesting...

Jar, mentioned Woot selling the 470s for R2500 top of page. Can also get the "Hawk" version with its 3 fans for R2800. Its madness!
Dont want to even think about Sandy Bridge, if the price is even at 10/1 of what the USA prices are its going to be cheap and make my life a misery......After pc purchase last year, said no more for atleast 2 years :(
