GPU Value Comparisons

Hi guys.

I am looking to buy a new graphics card (currently have a nVidia 8600GT). I looked through this thread and you guys really know your stuff. I have no idea what to look for in a graphics card except memory lol.

Can you guys give me some advice on what to look for? My budget is +- R2000 and no more than 2500. At the moment the GTX460 1gig seems the best bet. My other problem is, on wootware, when i search for gtx 460 i get 21 results. Theres retail, overclocked and then theres different 'brands'

Holy macro, buying a graphics card is complicated :p

I am unable to view the picture that is posted in the original thread. I get a blocked login error message.

I dont want to register on a site where I'll never go again. Can someone email me the pic please? :)

Edit: I should probably add that i want to use the card mostly for gaming purposes. I want to play games with full graphic settings. No more 'medium' :p hehe.

Thanks for any advice :)

I'd go with a 6870 in that price range but you want the 6950 :p (the 6950 vtx3d is outa stock)

Look there really is no difference between the brands, some claim to use better components, some offer better warranty so it's up to you.
When you start looking at the Overclocked and super overclocked, yes they do perform better, but it is really easy to buy a standard card and OC it just as much. So it's kind of pointless to buy already OC'd cards unless you feel uneasy about doing it your self..

Thanks Peanut. I've read some other reviews/opinions and it seems the 6870 is the better card. The 6950 is a bit out of my price range so i'll go with the 6870 :D

Will endeavour to have the charts updated with the HD6990 by the end of the week. Until then any updates on current pricing would be appreciated

Hey Guys,

Sorry about this. There was a communication error between myself and our product adder. I gave the cost price, and the price was inserted into the net price field, meaning only vat was added, so basically we sold the stock at cost price for the first day or so.

Sorry about that, but congratulations to the handful of guys who took the opportunity and got the cards at cost! :)

Thanks for the update Archer - especially for putting in the prices on the chart too!

Sorry that I'm only now giving you some updates ;)

You could've actually decreased quite a few HD 68xx & 69xx prices, by using the VTX3D prices of WootWare: http://www.wootware.co.za/catalogsearch/result/?q=vtx3d&x=0&y=0
HD 6850 @ R1,599
HD 6870 @ R1,999
HD 6950 @ R2,499
HD 6970 @ R3,338

Rampage Gaming is selling the:
Inno3D GTX 570 1280MB @ R3,330
Inno3D GTX 460 1GB @ R1,675
Inno3D GTX 550 Ti 1GB @ R1,445 - but this card is so not worth it for this price

Take2 is still selling the Gigabyte GTX 560 Ti 1GB OC for R2,532 and they actually have it in stock!
This would place the card on par with the HD 6950 that isn't modified to 6970. My guess is that you should be able to OC it to like 950MHz, which would be pretty much on par with the MSI GTX 560 Ti Twin Frozr II - like shown here - in which case it'll outperform the HD 6970 !

Either the review I read was wrong or I don't understand why you said the GTX550 isn't worth it, as from what I saw, the GTX550 > GTX460 1GB...?

Edit: nvm, checked again. agree, not worth it at that price.

The GTX 460 768MB > HD 5770 > GTX 550 Ti, so it's really not worth it to get it at this stage.

just picked up a HD6850 for some light gaming, stoked :D Regret selling HD5850.
