GPU Value Comparisons

and this was before i moved up from a tri core to a quad core amd chip and a higher spec board, was still running the cheap gigabyte board there is for amd

i would really like to see that, any way, i am not saying that mem speed and amount and core speed means nothing, that would be arrogant, its is as you say, having the ratios the closest to perfect will always win.

I dont think you're running a 6800GS then. Post a pic of your device manager with the card displayed.

Got nothing to do with ratios. Memory bandwidth is a product of speed and bus width (ie 128 or 256). Thus, memory bus width is important only because it influences memory bandwidth. Having a 1024 bit bus running at 2MHz will be much slower than a 64 bit bus running at 2000MHz.

Amount matters but really depends upon what game you are playing and at what resolution.

perhaps we should have a weekend project, specify a benchmark to run with a link to it, all that want to participate run it and return with their results and machine specs on monday, this would have to be a benchmark for the display card only, something like 3dmark.

what say you? mm, perhaps with pricing of your card as well then, should there then be one out there that is not that expensive with better performance than mine, then i know what to get next

Actually thats not a bad idea. But with a CPUZ and GPUZ window open so that we can verify everything. I REALLY want to see this mutant superhero 6800GS of yours in action

I would also gladly participate, seeing as my HD6850 is now much cheaper than R2000. Name your benchmark.

Yeah could do that. I wouldnt buy my card if I bought one now, I would buy a GTX460 or a 6850.

I just thought of something. Since you are running Crysis in DX9 instead of DX10 (since your card doesn't support DX10 or 11) this would make quite a big difference in FPS, not so?

here is a entry from a review on this card some time ago just as a indication, but we shall see what happens on monday

All this gives the BLISS 6800GS stunning performance for its price range, for the most part faster than the legendary and considerably more expensive 6800 Ultra. When tested at a 1024 x 768 resolution, 3DMark05 scores a very healthy 5965, along with 56fps in Half Life 2 and 74fps in Far Cry, both games running with all detail settings at maximum.

Do us a favour - open up device manager, expand the Display Adapters bit, and upload a screenshot somewhere.

Thats all well and good, but we are comparing it to today's GPU's. If you compare your card to ANY modern GPU above R1000 today, your card will get decimated.

Fact.

Okay, have a look here.

That should give you an idea how slow your card is. Look for the 6800 Ultra, somewhere near the bottom. Notice how it gets 2646 3dMark06 points. Guess what its beaten by? a 2600 Pro beats it handily by more than 50%. A 4870 gets about 12995, which is similar to what a 5770 would get. A 6850 would get even higher than that.

Point is, a 2600 Pro is so old its not even made anymore, and when it was made, it was cheap. Now, imagine what you would get today for R1000 - something much faster than a 2600 Pro, and hence much faster than your old card too.

once again, i am not saying that there is no faster card out there, that would just be a load of bull, either way, we shall see the differences in the cards.

i just hope the are a couple of ATI results as well

the facts are that you say it scored 2646 and the one i posted had a score of 5965, which is more than double, and yes there is a 3dmark05 vs 06 difference.
like i said, monday things will be clearer

What is it EXACTLY that you are trying to prove? What point are you trying to get across to us?

I am genuinely confused...
