Hi

I use Grabit to download from the IS news server but my problem is on certain partitions of the download it says connection time out is there any way to stop this if i right click and say retry it downloads.

How do I fix this?
Or is there better software other then grabit

Thanks

try the following:

Go to the Edit Menu -> Preferences
Go to the Advanced Tab, tick the box that says "Automatically retry items in batch" - this should cause the file to retry once the queue is done.

The only other decent software is Alt.Binz, but I prefer GrabIt.....

SQL has it spot on i can say that newzleecher is 10x better.

I actually bought it because it was well worth the dosh.

an additional alternative, there is a web based option that you could install and have running on your machine called SABNzb
have used it in the past and is also quite nice....

http://sabnzbd.org/

Bru download it first before you buy it. Download newzleecher as well and test it out.

Don't go giving random companies your money without having tried the product.

Newsleecher and NewsBin Pro seems to be the two favourite paid for apps and they seem to compare well with each other, but the pricing ... maybe Newsleecher was a once off payment before, but now it claims to be annual (if you want upgrades)?!

https://newsleecher.com/?id=buy
US$ 19.99/yr

vs

https://www.newsbin.com/users/signup.php?product_id=6
$35.00 for lifetime subscription

Ah, I see Newsleecher hasn't been updated since May 2008. So this may be the cheaper option.

No, I am using a version of Newsleecher that's no more than a month old.

Ah I see that was 3.9 and there is a 4 Beta 20. Trying it out now. Liking what I am seeing. Nice looking and logical interface. Got a speed limiter. Compacts articles into a single line.

Going to try the top 5 this weekend. I know Grabit already. Will also try Newsbin Pro, SABnzb and Alt.Binz.

Ok, I've tried them all. Obviously just a quick once over, so I haven't used them extensively except for Grabit, but here's my thoughts:

Newsbin Pro is ugly and illogical. It's the most expensive of the top five.
Alt.Binz is too basic. It's far too expensive for what you get.
Grabit is free and works pretty well but does require some manual repair and extraction 10% of the time. No speed limiter.

SABnzbd is free. It's browser based which is interesting, but it's not for me.

So in order of preference I'd say:
1. NewsLeecher
2. Grabit
3. Alt.Binz
4. SABnzbd
5. Newsbin Pro

I'm going to buy NewsLeecher.

Say What? My Alt.binz was free and for nothing.

It just has a Paypal Donate button.

Or just use AltBinz. Auto pauses par2 files as well :)

I used Alt.Binz for a long time and probly my next fav one. Problem is I couldn't find a script which read my drive and downloaded the latest stuff automatically. Also there isn't a webgui so couldn't add stuff when not at home.

Btw sab also auto pauses the par files... only after attempting to extract and the files are incomplete will it start downloading the pars.

The free version is very old, was last updated in 2007. You have to donate to get a recent version.
The free version seems to work ok though.

Check this out, like uTorrent for torrents, Unzbin for nzb's: http://www.unzbin.com

Going to try this out as a replacement for Newsleecher ...

Anyone tried this yet?
