Now that I think about it, I guess the Club 3D Radeon HD 6790 is a winner or is it the Club 3D GTX550? hmmmm

There's a stock shortage on VTX3D cards at the moment. At this moment in time, we don't have definite information on when the next shipment is arriving.

However, I do have a a better alternative (3-year warranty, better cooler):

If your friend is willing to pay slightly more than R1500, then I'd recommend the Inno3D GTX460 1GB @ R1,566.87 excl shipping < the exact card that Slayeruser mentioned.

The HD 6850 will be a worthwhile upgrade over the HD 6790! The Geforce Ti460 mentioned here is also a very good option!
