hi all

mate of mine is having an issue, all of a sudden, and we trying to figure out what's going on!

Its a Nvidia 8600, passive cooling, and the case has good airflow. While playing heroes of newerth (hardly a demanding game!), the game starts to stutter and eventually it comes up with an driver error saying the vga card has recovered from an error.

Thought maybe heat was an issue, but we played this game all through the summer heat.. no issue.

Any ideas?

cheers

Run rivatuner or something like that and monitor the temps while in the game. It is possible that the cooler is not in good thermal contact with the chip package. Since the cooler is spring loaded, it can come loose if pressed in the wrong way and then breaks the dry thermal compound, making it less effective. if that is the case, you will have to remove and reseat the cooler with fresh compound. Or maybe the card is just failing.

ok thanks guys for the info, much appreciated

will have a scratch around tonight and see if I can find some compound... will first try the drivers and rivatuner option though
