ok i touched on this topic earlier in another thread, im even posting in the wrong section... But i trust u guys!
I just got a sinotec 47" lcd and im using it as a pc monitor. I want to set the resolution to 1920 x 1080 but i need a graphics card to connect via hdmi or even dvi.. Im not going to play games on the pc, just using it for photoshop, corel draw, and watching downloaded hd video content but i want the movies to play smoothly.
I currently have a NVIDIA Geforce 6150 512MB ONBOARD which dont have hdmi or dvi slots.
I also have a a DVI to HDMI cable if needed...
Please recommend a gfx card that would be fine for me to use, and if u have the time, how do i install the thing as well! Tnx in advance!!!

I've got the HD4890 overclocked and it does that fine. alternatively check the web for what is the first-spec card with an hdmi output and full HD support.

odd, CPUs worked fine without having to do that. sounds like marketing babble to me. i've never had anything less than perfect video out of my ATI.

And only windows? sounds like nvidia is back in bed...

an HD3450 will probably run HD movies on that LCD fine. I got one on my 32" LCD (720p) and is perfect.. never tried it on full HD though.. so I can't say it will definately be fine. But I think the HD4770 is a bit of an overkill for what you need. Maybe the 4650 or 4670 ?

Ermmm, me thinks you are missing the point ever so slightly ;) Try reading up on it a bit first before commenting too much:)

I think you should go do some more reading on the subject as it makes a pretty big difference to your cpu load.

No, there is VDPAU for Linux, FreeBSD and Solaris.

wat do u think i should be paying for such a card? Im checking some hectic prices for the 4890.. Dont even know if theres different models.. These seem like telephone numbers to me :P

hehe, the only fan i want is to keep me cool this summer.
Pc specs:
amd athlon64 5200+ 2.7ghz dual core
black case with 450w power supply
2gb ddr2 ram
320gb sata 7200 rpm hard drive
nvidia geforce 6150 512mb onboard

i can pay around 1k but cheaper is better

sorry, another noob question..
When i install the new card, what happens to the onboard one? Is that one ignored or will i have double the power in my graphics :)

It gets ignored. There is a option in the bios to turn it on though but it wont double your power.

It wont double the power. Only if it's hybrid SLI compatible and then you have to go NVIDIA, because your chipset is NVIDIA. (hybrid crossfire = ATI) it may give u some advantage, but I have not tried this before. Best bet .. just slot in a new card and switch off the onboard.
