Graphics Card Noob... HELP!!!

It should get ignored automatically when you install a new card. so don't worry about that. PC are clever these days :)

Great stuff, now to find someone with stock of that model u recommended.. Any idea where else i can try? Tnx for all the help thus far guys!

This is what I got for my HTPC

I got it as it had an onboard HDMI connector. I cannot hear the fan as the card never works hard. I don't offload onto the GPU. I've tried it but it's very, very fiddly and only works with certain files using MPC. I run MCE and couldn't be bothered with the hassle. The plus point of this card is that you can get LPCM through HDMI, no need for SPDif connections like with nVidia cards (which is audibly inferior). Also, I've played some 1080p content off this rig and using an E8400 it hardly registers 10% cpu usage. So, offloading onto the GPU is rather moot and not worth the hassle.

Edit, I see the card is also out of stock. To be honest, wait for the new year. I think they state out of stock as their suppliers are closed.

i went with the msi ati radeon 4650 1gb recommended earlier in this thread. Ordered it online from ngr computers. They closed until 4 january so i'll only know then if they have stock

sorry, another noob question..
When i install the new card, what happens to the onboard one? Is that one ignored or will i have double the power in my graphics :)

no you leave it on :P
........
I would certainly go for something stronger than a 9600, be it Nvidia or ATI equal , the monitor you bought has some high demand. Though the latest, most expensive is not needed. a 4670 or a 9800GT should do well. You design programs will need more than a 9600 with that monitor's demands.
...........
& remember to turn off your onboard graphics if your system does not do it automatically :P
