Hi

I have an interesting problem with my graphics card

I have had no problems with it over the past year and a half but yesterday when I booted it showed the post and then went black before starting to load windows, restarted, still no success.

Plugged it into a different monitor still nothing.

The connetion is through an 8600GT graphics card, tried it connected to both connections on the graphics card but nothing displays....

Plugged the monitor into the onboard graphics connector and it all works fine whilst the graphics card is still plugged in.

Plugged in a spare 7300LE and its the same problem, everything is good on the onboard but no display via the card, the 7300 definitly works because when I put it back into the machine I found it in it works fine.

Also, the device manager shows that both cards are plugged in and windows says the are running perfect.

I ran out of time yesterday and didn't get a chance to put the 8600 into another machine so I am not 100% sure its still going but it seems strange that if it were dead that I would still be able to see in the device manager.

So I have 3 theories

1) the pci slot is faulty and thats why none of the cards work in there
2) the pci slot is faulty and its blown my 8600 (which i am hoping is not the case)
3) the drivers have been corrupted or something

Any suggestions as to other possible causes

FYI, the mobo is gigabyte S series but im not sure of the model

i can and I am fairly certain I did do that (it was very late last night) and it does the same thing, boots fine and I am fairly sure it goes to the windows login screen but still no display, i'll need to test this again though to be certain.
