Howzit folks

Looks like my ATI Radeon R5770 has kicked the bucket after 3/4 years of loyal service.

The machine has an MSI 790GX-G65 montherboard and a 1000W PSU.

Can anyone recommend the best value-for-money card at the moment? Looking at mid-higher end and I'm very much out of the loop so not much clue here :)

TIA! :D

I agree with Chevron. What's your budget? The GTX760 is also pretty good.

Thanks for the options so far.

In terms of stock, it looks like my options are: MSI N650 OC 2GB, R7770 1GB (would this be a direct upgrade from the 5770?), R7850 1GB, R7950 3GB (huge jump in price for this one obviously).

7770 is only small upgrade from 5770, rather get 7850 if you're on a budget.

Are you happy moving to Nvidia or would you like to stay with AMD?

HD7770 not a mayor upgrade. HD7850 1GB will make a lot of difference. You can also look at the Nvidia GTX650 Ti Boost. The PowerColor HD7870 are selling below R2400, which is IMO the best value for money ATM.

If you're looking for best bang-for-buck ratio, there's a Radeon HD6950 2GB for R1700 at Wootware. If you'd prefer something newer, anything from a Radeon HD7850/Geforce GTX650 Ti Boost will give you quite a spring in terms of performance.

Shot okes, much appreciated.

Looks like I'll prob go 7850/7950, if so, would the connectors be the same? PCI-E in the side and the one extra square-type power connector in the back?

Hi There,
colleague went with the 7850 over the 7950 as he could not see a justifiable performance increase to warrant the price difference.

Con't comment on the connectors as I can't remember what they looked like.

Regards

Tim

Just look at pics of the card or go to their website. You should have 2x PCI-E (6pin) connectors at least if you are going higher than HD7850.

You have a 1000W power supply, you should have the right number and type of connectors. For reference, though:

Radeon HD5770 - one 6-pin PEG
Radeon HD7850 - one 6-pin PEG
Radeon HD7870 - two 6-pin PEG
Radeon HD7870 LE, HD7950, HD7970 - one 6-pin, one 8-pin PEG
Radeon HD7990 - two 8-pin PEG
