Hi, I have an MSI A88X G43 motherboard ; AMD X4 860K ; 16GB Gskill DDR3 1866 ; 550 Watt (580 Watt Peak)
I would love to upgrade my graphics card as the one i currently have is not that great, good enough for Call Of Duty 4 Modern Warfare but it can not handle games like Battlefield 4 on medium high + settings , thats the only game i can mention because i am not really a gamer.
I would like to try more but i am not there yet.

I want to get a better gfx card for computing purpose and encoding of x264 x265 films especially.
I would like to continue what i used to do long ago which was donate cpu power and gfx power to community projects like Seti/Boinc/Space and Cancer programs.

I was looking at getting myself the RX470 graphics card as it is very very close to the RX480.
I looked at GTX ranges but they just seem more expensive to me and i was told that the ATI AMD is the right way to go if it is for encoding of movies and also computing for data.

I wanted to originally get the RX460 because of budget but then saw it is not that strong and i really dont want to be buying a graphics card again in the next 2 years.

I hope to allow this to last for a bit at least.

Somewhat disappointed about my cpu as it doesnt seem to be that powerful although it shows that it runs at 3.7 ghz

I am not sure what to do now , buy 2 graphics cards RX470 with 4GB or just buy one RX480 with 8GB or rather just buy 2 RX480 with 4GB.

Its obvious to go up to the highest performer, but after seeing videos they are very close and i could save the few hundred rand or double of that for the two card scenario...

Maybe somebody else can assist here and give me their ideas or suggestions.

I currently have a GTX 650 so i am hoping to see a huge improvement.
I am not good at understanding or seeing those sites with the graphs i would rather ask or see real world differences.

Thanks for reading.

Considering your current PC, I was actually also going to recommend the RX470. Probably your best bet.

Keep the extra cash to upgrade to Zen.

The AMD RX5xx series should launch in May, so it you can wait until then, then you should be able to get the current RX4xx cards for a bit cheaper.

Neither your cpu or gpu are great. You can buy a new gpu but that cpu is going to bottleneck it. Ideally you need a new MB/CPU/RAM/GPU.

My advice is to wait a bit to see what the ryzen cpus & vega gpus offer and then get back to this thread.

I would go for the RX 480 over the RX 470 because there is only a R400 difference on the 4GB cards and if you want the 8GB cards also only R150 difference. http://www.wootware.co.za/computer-...deon_rx_480-radeon_rx_470?dir=asc&order=price.

The RX480 is quiet a bit better for only R400 or R150 more.

Just make sure if you get the Powercolour RX480 8GB card that your PSU has a 8 Pin connector or that's an extra cost and that you have 30cm in your case (its a big card).

You can also try https://mybroadband.co.za/vb/member.php/63786-Gtx-Gaming where you give in your old card and he gives you a discount on a new one. Hopefully he still does this but cant hurt to try

Hi, i dont seem to follow you , the 8GB cards are about 1200 Rand in price difference.
The savings between the RX470 and the RX480 for the 4GB version is 300 Rand.
I need to know if i need the 8GB compared the the 4GB , which is tricky because there are so many reviews and different opinions.
this is hard to work out , it feels like buying a car

Sounds exciting, but is this MAY in South Africa also? because remember we are never listed on the world map, we seem to never exist to many of the world.

My cpu i reckon is decent but not for data computaions as i have seen, really disappointed about it.
I bought it in 2015 but only got to really use it in late 2016, really sad.
Its a popular chipset and lots of people swear by it and the promise to support the socket , just sad it is too slow for what i want to do.

Buying a new mobo cpu and stuff will be hard... i need help because i dont know what is stronger for the price i paid more or less.

Computer parts arrive in SA around the same time as overseas, maybe a weak or so later.

If you can give us a budget to work with we can put together a parts list for you. Ideally you want an i5 paired with a rx480 or gtx 1060.
