Hi. Can someone just tell me which screen card is a good buy if I need to upgrade from FX5600....on an AMD system please?
Chris

Hi again
Between R1500-00 and R2000, just for games!!!!

Think you looking at a 256MB 6600 (R1399) or 128MB 6600GT (R1699) Both AGP. Prices/Brands might vary from other ppl, but that's more or less what you're looking at nVidia-wise.

Just saw these CPU's. Will need some "investigating" ;)

/edit : Just checked xtremeware, hope Angellus doesn't see those Gainwards floating around there :)

/edit : screw my first recommend...here you go

I went from a mediocre, nah, downright poor 5600, to a woody inducing 6800.
Best buy I ever made!

I can second that the 6600 GT is a good choice.

Remember that xtremeware.co.za prices are ex vat.

don't even consider the 6600....a few rand extra gets u the 6600GT, and if u feel like splashing out a bit just over R2000 get the 6800.(the AGP version can be unlocked to give you 16 pixel pipelines and 6 vertex shaders like the 6800GT, but the ram on the card will be a bit slower. Not all unlocks are succesfull). Personally the only card I would buy now is the 7800GT just over R3000 but nextgen and really fast! (Not sure if it's available in AGP yet).

I very much doubt there will be an AGP version of that card but who knows.

The 6600GT would be a good buy but if the 7800GT is really as cheap as potenc says then I think it would be better wait a bit and buy a 6800GT when they get cheaper.

I would also like to know where one can get that card for that price.

The cheapest Ive seen that card is close to R5000.

Well I wouldn't really call it nextgen. It has the same features as the 6800 series just tweaked a little bit. You can run the 7800GTX tech demo's with the 6800GT. I have done this and they run OK.

If you have between R5000-R7000 to waste then by all means get the 7800GTX. I think the best cards to get ATM are the 6800GT's but wait a little longer, the prices will drop more.

Like other posters I will agree -> Bang for your buck can't do much better than the NVIDIA 6600GT; The 6800 is very nice, but you won't use that extra memory really unless you tend to play a lot of games at 1600x1280 or some such res. And seeing as you already had a NVIDIA, upgrade is a matter of plugging in the new card. I really wish ATI could take a hint ...

Nope, the 6800 is better. The 6600gt might come close to the 6800 at low res but the higher resolution the better the 6800 is.
