So I want to upgrade my Graphics card. I need something that has a HD input for watching Mkv files directly from PC to my LED. What to you guys recommend??

I assume you mean HDMI output?

If that is all you want to do with it then a low powered card like the Geforce G210 or GT520 will do fine and don't have noisy fans. If you also need for gaming then somebody else will have to help, not my forte.

I agree. A fairly cheap ATI HD card will do the trick as well.

I have a HD4650 1GB in my box at home and full HD to my Samsung 23". The card cost me below R500 at the time. I game casually on it as well.

Whenever I connect my card via HDMI to my LCD the graphics look horrible....text is bury and the resolution doesn't fit...any tips for that?

If its a LCD TV, try changing the mode to PC or Gaming. It gets rid of the tv's post processing effects.

In addition to what Synergy said, you might also have to look inside the settings for your GPU to change the overscan settings so that not only does the card select the correct resolution, but it also scales properly to match the TV's panel.

No gaming. I prefer gaming on my Xbox which is setup perfectly. Mainly use my PC to download series and movies and right now I am sitting with over 1.5TB worth of MKV movies which are dying to be watched. i will have a look around at Esquire or Choas.

@Sharkie 187,

Yep, get the best you can afford that has the most memory and supports the latest technologies.
Hdmi v1.4

If you're going to use XBMC, it would be better to get a nVidia based card.

If you're at Esquire, check out the HP Proliant Microserver that you can use as a perfect little HTPC.
It is most probably where you will end up in time. If you might consider this route in the future, try and buy a graphics card that will fit this unit.
I use the nVidia GT610 with low profile adapter.

To be totally honest, I see and read all these threads on Microservers, but I still need to make up my mind about it. I do agree with you though, that the time will come where I will need one..

Yeah, that's all I meant by it.

Many walk down this same road, I certainly did.

Started with using my PS3 as a media server, then PS3 with PC sharing the media, then PC being the primary, then Microserver, it evolves.

With 1.5TB of movies, it becomes important to decide the right solution and to make your purchasing decisions accordingly.

I have 7TB of Movies and Series, 1TB of Documentaries & Stand-up Comedy Shows, 1TB of music, 500GB of E-Books - so for me it's 2x Microservers.
1 as the HTPC and the other as a dedicated NAS. It grows on you.

Enjoy your venture down this path.

Sorry, When I said LCD, I meant my 23" Samsung Syncmaster B2330 Monitor.

If DVI is fine, VGA is fine but HDMI looks terrible, then you have a faulty monitor. Specifically, the scaler isn't working properly and doesn't match the provided resolution to the screen properly. If its under warranty, consider sending it back for a proper working monitor.

We have quite a few Samsung monitors at our office that does not like the HDMI connection. Like when you switch off the PC (when using HDMI), the screen would never switch off. Using an HDMI to DVI adapter fixed that issue though.

The PC mode does affect the HDMI connection when using it with a PC, but I can't remember if it completely fixed the issue, seeing that I'm still using an HDMI cable with an HDMI to DVI adapter on my Samsung LCD at the office.
