I've got a P4 3gig PC and I've just bought a Benq FP93GX LCD. Got Vista on a dual boot & I don't game. Can you guys please recommend a decent graphics card, it shouldn't be too expensive - something under a grand perhaps :o.

I do plan on gaming, but it's not priority right now.

Thanks guys

It all depends on your platform. Of you have AGP8x then maybe a NVIDIA 6600GT? If you have PCI-e16x then either a NVIDIA 7300GT or a NVIDIA 7600GS (if your budget can stretch that far). Good luck!

new AGP cards are hard to get. There are 7600GS cards available for AGP, but unlike their PCI-E counterparts, they are more than R1000 (roughly R1200). if you are in Cape Town, PM me and I can organize one. Things to look for are DVI, HDTV-out out and passive (no fans) cooling. Go with the brand with the best warranty since all the cards are nearly identical.

Interesting card, definitely worth a second look. But the question remains, does he have AGP or PCI-e?

PCI? surely you mean PCI-e.
What graphics card do you currently have? picture/vid quality wont really improve unless you have a absolutely ancient card atm.

To clarify

First there was PCI, it was too slow for newer graphics so along came AGP. then they decided they need to get high speed slots for other things so they made PCI-Express.

all PC's will have the old PCI slots, but then there is a changeover from PCI+AGP to PCI+PCI-Express

What graphics card have you got at the moment?

The only thing that will significantly improve image quality is DVI, but I doubt that your Benq has that since they are a low cost brand.

sorry guys PCI Express :o My Benq does have DVI

what is your current graphics card? :/
& does it have DVI? if it does then there is realy no point to upgrading to a 7600gs if you dont game.

so are you using onboard atm or havent u built the PC yet?
if you dont game & want dvi a 7300/6600gt or X1300 will suit your needs perfectly.

Yep, the 6600GT is a good choice. Stay away form the 6800 series, though. Heard some rumors about those. If you can afford something better, go for a 7600GT or higher :)

For gaming, ofcourse...that's if you aren't too "old" for it. Don't think one can be too old for games.
