This will be used to design calendars, frames in detail...

Do I need to get a proper PCI-E graphics card?

Yes, and maybe some more RAM too.

I wouldn't spend any more than R500 on card, spend more money on RAM and faster hard-drives.

And a big screen <- I can't emphasize that enough. My 24" went on the blink a while back and I had use CorelDraw on a 17" at 1280 x 1024... oh my poor eyes and cramped workspace.

:(

you see, the other dual core computer with 7600GS is working with another machine....so I used all my old parts to build this one..

I will get another 512MB of RAM

But what type of card to I need?

6600GT? - good enough?
8400GS - do I have to spend this much?

And yeah, I'll be using Corel X4 on a 15" display:(:o:sick:

I think we should start a collection for you...

Are you familiar with CorelDraw at all? I work with the object properties, clipart & object manager docked on the right hand side taking up about a 5th of the display area. At 1280x1024 the same setup, all my docked items took up about a 3rd of the space. I guess if you get used to working at a lower res it wont make much difference but going backwards really hurts.

i use corel draw all day on my home office pc but i also use corel on another pc with no vga card and onboard

no difference at all

you dont need a vga card for basic design programs

get a 22" monitor then u need a vga card

working with corel on a 22" monitor is the business :)

o corel x4 is almost identical to x3, power trace has actually gone backwards

x3 FTW

Nope:o

I'm getting a professional to do it all for me:p

ram and cpu is all that counts (5 3d animators on my staff) though a raptor also helps when rendering :)

As mentioned more ram (2gb) - photoshop (if you use it) gets hungry. A fast hdd is pretty handy too.

A bigger screen might come in handy but I do all my graphic design and photography work on a 17" laptop (MBP) so you'll manage
