Great Android apps

So I always find these OS specific lists a bit redundant. That being said, I do realise functionality can vary across platforms. But it still seems to me that in general once an app is popular/good, it transcends being a one platform app.

EG: Opera & VLC

Is there some kind of conspiracy against Nokia and its Symbian operating system?

To me it seems so.

Bear in mind, the reason why Microsoft PC products are so expensive is because there is virtually no competition for it especially in South Africa and many other countries.

By banishing Symbian apps by ignoring them as if people are not using Nokia smartphones, we are effectively creating a space for Android to be the only OS for smartphones with some to little competition from Apple (which is too expensive for many in any case).

The WhatsApp application right now is being pushed by Nokia sales by network providers (MTN, Vodacom etcetera), yet, I cannot remember MyBroadband talking about symbian applications.

Like it or not, Nokias are still selling and they are damn good too. Very reliable and robust. I had a Samsung before my Nokia and it doesn't compare. Believe me. My first phone was a Nokia and 14 years later, the robustness, the feel of the phones has not changed. They are good.

Give them a break and give us some reviews.

It is just an observation I made. I am not a fan boy.

What interest me most is which apps that are considered as being good are available only to a single platform? it seems to me that as soon as any app is lauded on one platform, 99% of the time you will find it on other popular formats.

Not always the case. If we talk about applications that deals with functionality it normally doesn't work that way. For example having File managers on Android(ES File Manager) or File store on Iphone(Air Sharing).

Things like eReaders and Social interaction would normally go cross platform and some games but not always. Example Flipboard that is iPad only, sure Feedly and Pulse is on both but sometimes they dont all make the transition even if they are high in demand.

Nice write up,I use "watchdog" in conjunction with task killers so that you can monitor which applications are using cpu at what time, makes much more sense as it shows you that some apps when running background only use 1% or less of cpu power but when in use they use much more.....you'll be surprised what isnt killing your battery life.

Hey guys. I got a Galaxy tab last week (7") - what awesome apps are worth downloading and which not? I want cheap / free options and they must actually be something I can / will use.

Also, anyone know if it is yet possible to load V3 on the 7" (even if via workaround?)? I know someone got it working, minus wifi and another item that was not yet working.

Well that all depends on what you want to do with it? ES file Manager and Kindle being obvias well I normally only use a reader that can open ePubs and convert all my books to ePub format using http://calibre-ebook.com/

3.2 only just came out(Last week) and one of its main features is to be able to work on 7" tablets. I guess you will have to wait just a tad so that people can play around with it, also maybe look out if Samsung is not planing to do it themselves as well.

Thanks for the response Elimentals, will have a look.

Still unsure what I want to do with it. Its a new toy for me, haven't used one yet.

I have to say Whats app - the MXIT killer - is my fave
