Last week I complained about how an upgrade to our exchange involving fiber precluded us from getting ADSL.
Well Telkom just called to say that things had changed and would I like to re-apply!!!
The ADSL number test still shows it's not available at my phone number but I'll re-apply and see what happens!!

Streak

Sounds good.
Hold the celebrations until you have it installed and working.

Belive me 2 weeks of waiting for adsl can make you hate telkom sooooo bad. And then you wait 4 weeks. Torture.

My application was sooo long ago that all I can remember is that it was about mid-March [ides of March maybe], and I still haven't heard whether they have tested the copper/whatever or intend to test it...:(

ask them to install 3lines and see how they rush to test.. after its confirmed, cancel them :D

you think 2/4 weeks is torture... try 6 months

I agree with BTTB.. hold the celebrations until your surfing on ADSL

All I am celebrating now is that they bothered to call me at all!!!
I got my reference number today lets see how it goes from now on.

I told them that I dont want the 2 year contract free modem story I plan on using the Duxbury unit. Is this a wise choice?

Yes!!

I wouldnt know if the duxbury is any good or bad though.

When I did my install at home a few years ago, I walked the Telkom guy through how I wanted my cable to run through the complex to the exchange.

Result : not one days trouble out of the line, and it tested fine to 7Mb/s in fact it was running at that initially, but that was looooong ago!

D

Guess I got too excited too soon.
I re-applied and then called after week to see what was happening only to be told that ADSL is NOT available at my exchange despite what the sales guy told me.

So back to dialup we go.

Oh my.....

Typically Telkom!!

Don't wanna get your hopes up, but the dude/duded that told you nothing is available CAN be mistaken!!

You should try speaking to some1 else in a different department, maybe get a techie who services that area to confirm it. I would stop next to a Telkom bakkie and ask them. They will at least point you to the ADSL tecchie who can give you the real deal!!

but, alas, chances are still very slim!!

:)
