'Greed keeps Africa poor'

We have to look at history in order to rectify the future, we don't want to make the same mistakes again.

I am not living in the past, I am merely giving my opinion of why i think it is the way it is. Basically what you're saying right now is that africa's history has no correlation as to how it became as corrupt as it is now. All of a sudden out of nowhere every black leader is corrupt in the here and now and it has nothing to do with the past? That's not a very homogenous outlook.

it does have correlation to some extent, perhaps, but that doesnt remove the fact that responsibility needs to be taken NOW by the leaders who are currently cocking it up

bottom line is that you cant excuse digging your hand into the cookie jar and taking as many as you can carry, because the previous person did the same thing. guess that kind of responsibility comes with being an adult

Well they never looked at the past then because the african people are treated worse by their own kind than they were by the "white man"

So what past are they looking at? How can you treat your own people worse than those who treated you so poorly? I thought we were suppose to learn from the past not recreate it and make it 10 times worse for the people.

So you are correct you look back and you learn, africa though did not learn. Of course this must be a lack of education so the past comes into play. Why can't we just place the blame on greedy people who care more about today and themselves than tomorrow and their people?

dude just remember its not like that across the board. most are being raped I agree, but there are the elite who argue that this is not the case

the elite... nuff said

the elite dont wanna spread the gravy around? that takes a bit of back-bone and thought

This is also a good point, I often ask myself why governments 'need' to be as big as they are?
Was'nt most of Africa doing just fine and dandy before being introduced to western culture? Taking into consideration that they were'nt really introduced but forced into it.

There are many points to ponder on this issue, wanting to place blame on others is probably not the best way of dealing with it. We as Africans all need to take responsibility and do our bit, even if it is just in your own home.

couldnt agree more. more than anyone else, this should be directed at our leaders

Without a doubt!!!!!!! Although tunisia style riots could go a long way. I just don't see the black population doing that as it is drummed into them over and over that the past is to blame for their situation.

According to Malema & others whites aren't African so this remains a blacks-only issue then. Good luck getting yourself out of poverty with corrupt leaders like Zuma in power, and please stop blaming the whites when its your own kind stealing your future from you & your kids.

Isn't it easier to place the blame on whites than accept your own kind is corrupt? Well the leaders anyhow.

Because the natives allowed all the infrastructure that the "Evil colonialists"tm built to fall into disrepair?

Im not denying the above to be the case, but ignoring other factors shows a pretty biased grasp of colonialism. Colonialists adopted various approaches in different countries. Resource exploitation colonies were organized and developed for very different reasons. They had very different organisational and development structures for certain countries where the mantra was purely one of - slash and burn. This does not even take the systematic psychological effects into account. Its also worth remembering that many countries were only liberated from this in the late 60's. I do not condone negligence or nonchalance in terms of infrastructure maintenance and up keep in any way or form, it is totally inexcusable, but at least have the honesty and humility to recognize that colonialism did, and still does to a degree play some part in all of this.

Nope ! But populations were stable as a result of famine, disease and war - maybe you regard that as just fine and dandy ?

Yea they were not very stable, then they changed(westerners) and now they back where they started. If anything it shows something which i cannot bring up or it will deemed racist.

Takes a looong time to replenish the natural resources...

Exactly! Minerals have been in the ground for billions of years and can stay there for billions of years longer.

Oh, wait! The ANC can’t do anything else except sell-off the countries legacy. Those BMW’s, Mercs. and assorted bling must be paid for somehow. Lots of demand from India, China and others. So bling-crazed politicians mine and sell the minerals.

Yet ...... the ANC is selling out the country to the modern day colonialists - the Chinese. Did the ANC learn NOTHING from the past?

There is a vast difference to what colonialists have done/did/do compared to what the Chinese are doing. The West's hypocrisy in dealing with the Third World is not looked upon lightly by certain leaders whereas China is being much more straightforward in its dealings with the continent. Do you honestly believe the US or Britain in Libya have any different intentions? Stop being naive! The Chinese are not not getting in the face of the natives with political slogans such as "we want to bring you freedom and democracy" and military interventions. I do not condone it but its either the west or China who would be raping our resources in exchange for mountains of cash due to our raw material based economy. I suppose its a case of choosing the less hypocritical bunch, I dont know. The quicker we become an industrialized economy with China's aid as a prerequisite (rape them back), the better for us.

Trying to weigh the pros for colonialism is like trying to weigh the pros for child abuse. Its utterly idiotic and retarded! To all the bigots who intend on racialising my posts, you will not be entertained.

Reminds me of a Zapiro cartoon on Zim:

[-]Robert Mugabe (upon negotiating a government with the MDC): "We will never sell out to colonialist rule by foreign powers again!"
China (walking in through the back door): "Oh, herro!"[/-]

That's because the Chinese aren't being PC, they don't suffer from white guilt. They'll take what they want without concern for this continent and just leave. David Bullard was right: just be thankful the Europeans got here first!
