Green opportunity

Waht about standard (everready ) type batteries?

I am concerned about the aid leach fromstandard batteries. I throe them in the trash think it should be possible to recover the acid ?

any comment ?

I've thrown out a fair bit of old hardware... Mostly because I have no idea what to do with it or where to send it. It's great to know that such "opportunities" are taking off.

I'd also love it if we had those different bin/bag types for different refuse... I'd love to recycle... But I don't know how :(

Yay that's good news. Always good to hear something nice about S.A.

That's so true. It would be great if the municipalities/government could give us separate bags for eg. foodwaste; metal; plastic; paper.

Then we could have different bins and it would be so much easier.

Yep. Without a doubt. Maybe one day... As far as I know Pick 'n Pay have locales for the disposal of fluorescent light bulbs... That's a fine start, methinks...

Yeah I also know of nowhere where u can sent your e-waste to. Like just got a alarm battery replace and they guy leaves it here and what am I to do with it since I know trowing it away in the bin is not a good idea.

So this is great news

is there money in recycling electronic waste cos i heard that once upon a time there was

Not really. It is possible to recover some valuable metals from electronic waste (gold, silver, copper etc) but the logistics are very expensive and it can be quite hazardous (chemicals, CRT tubes etc.)

In Europe it is mandatory for manufacturers to have a "take back" service, and thus they are much further along. In SA this would be the best way to go, so if a company sells the product, a small portion of the cost of that product is set aside for recycling. Makes things a bit more expensive upfront, but better in the long run.
